Boys & Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas (BGCDET)

**Supervisor**: Project Director - 21st Century Community Learning Centers

**Salary**:$25-$35/hr. Depending on experience

**FLSA**: Part-time (Contracted Labor) This position is funded totally by grant funds for a limited duration.

**Job Summary**: Provide age-appropriate instruction and training to participating students in the

athletic disciplines and sports offered. Instruct students in the proper skills and techniques of the

sports offered, with a sensitivity to the skill level of each student. Teach and model the principles

of discipline, exercise, endurance, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Encourage students to

give their best efforts in pursuit of both team and personal goals. Be a positive role model to the

students in both word and deed, while maintaining a coaching and practicing atmosphere that is

fun, structured, productive, and successful.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**: High School Diploma or GED & an extensive personal or educational background in

organized sports or athletics, either as a player, coach, or instructor.

**Experience**: Knowledge of youth development and providing positive guidance to youth.

2-3 years of experience teaching athletics or coaching a youth age sports team, be it football, cheerleading, soccer, volleyball, basketball or baseball.

**Skills & Duties**: Knowledge of youth development; ability to motivate and provide guidance to youth through establishing positive relationships with youth participants; demonstrated caring and respect exhibited toward participants.
- Proficiency in athletics and related instructional methods for the respective sports offered.
- Ability to communicate instructions to youth aged students in a manner appropriate to their varying comprehension levels.
- A love of students and demonstrated strength in building meaningful relationships with any age group.
- Enthusiasm for the school's values, mission, and core guiding principles.
- A desire to work with a collaborative team of educators.
- Proven commitment to constructivism, multiple assessments, data-driven instruction, and a collaborative approach to teaching and learning.
- Experience in diverse communities.
- Experience implementing and adapting curriculum to meet the needs of students.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have demonstrated enthusiasm, energy, and commitment in personal contact with participants, parents, supervisors, and the general public.
- Ability to relate to the general public, parents, school staff, and BGCDET participants in a friendly, positive, and professional manner and demonstrated ability to convey BGCDET policies and procedures to participants, and to implement appropriate guidance and discipline policies.
- Ability to organize and supervise participants to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
- The Sports Instructor is expected to perform the following:_
- Develop or follow an approved curriculum throughout the course of the program.
- Teach the rules, regulations, and procedures of the respective sports.
- Teach the students proper sportsmanship, including how to win well and lose with grace.
- Inventory and analyze the existing skills and techniques of the participating students.
- Promote the safety and success of each student by teaching them the proper methods and

techniques appropriate to the sport in which they are involved.
- Demonstrate the skills required for the respective sports and keep pace with the students as they practice the sports offered
- Supervise and direct the use of all sporting equipment by students and other staff.
- Ensure that injuries of any kind are documented and reported to the appropriate individual(s)
- Ensure that practice area is well kept, prepared for program use, and cleared of any trash

afterwards.
- Communicate with the Site Director and parents as necessary or otherwise appropriate.
- Encourage the health and wellness of the students by promoting good eating habits and regular exercise.
- Encourage the pursuit of student’s personal goal within their respective sports.
- Encourage the pursuit of team goals within the respective sport.
- Promote the development of a sense of responsibility to self in each student.
- Promote the development of a sense of responsibility to the team, in each student.
- Encourage the progressive development of diligence, personal discipline, and persistence in each student.
- Prepare students to showcase their skills at the conclusion of the program.

**Environmental and Working Conditions**:

- This position will require working in outdoor environments. Daily walking around campus is required.
