**TITLE**: Electrical Inspector

**DEPARTMENT**: Building Department

**SUMMARY**:
The Electrical Inspector performs administrative and technical work in the enforcement of the State Electrical Code for wiring in all types of buildings. Performs services by applicable Massachusetts General Law, Town policies, Town Bylaws, and relevant state, federal, and local regulations and standards.

**Supervision Received**: This position works under the direction of the Building Commisioner by the applicable Massachusetts General Laws, Town policies, Town bylaws, and relevant state, federal, and local regulations, and standards. Work will be completed following established departmental policies and procedures.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Makes inspections of buildings and homes to check on wiring installations for safety and adherence to electrical codes.

Performs other tasks as assigned.

Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of electricity, electrical devices, and apparatus. Considerable judgment is required in making technical decisions. Knowledge of inspection techniques and manner of presentation of office to the public. Some knowledge of general operations of other inspection divisions to be able to coordinate inspections effectively. Some knowledge of report writing and the ability to submit clear and concise yearly reports.

Skill: Proficient oral and written communication skills; strong commitment to excellent customer service; and a desire to meet and serve the community. Proficiency with cell phones, tablet, copy machines, fax machines, and electrical testing equipment.

**Work Location**:Off-site

Field work is conducted under varying conditions with exposure to some occupational risks and requires local travel. Will be required to work outside of normal business hours to accommodate evening inspections, seasonal fluctuations in construction activities, and off-site appointments.

**Physical Skills**:Work requires some agility and physical strength, such as moving in or about construction sites or over rough terrain or standing or walking most of the work period. Occasionally, work may require lifting, pushing, or pulling department equipment or materials.

**Visual Skills**:Employee is required to constantly read documents and blueprints or construction drawings for general understanding and analytical purposes. Employee must be able to determine color differences.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
Completion of a four-year high school course or vocational, plus three to five years of full-time practical experience in electrical construction and maintenance work as a licensed electrician or any equivalent combination of education and experience. General knowledge of State and National electrical codes.

**Special Requirements**:
Possession of a Motor Vehicle Class D Operator’s License

Possession of Certificate A or Certificate B license under section three of chapter one hundred and forty-one.
