**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:
**SPECIFIC ROLES, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Counseling**
- Work actively to know each student and raise student aspirations.
- Provide individual and/or group counseling as needed.
- Provide appropriate resources to all students, parents, and faculty to maximize student success.
- Advocate for students who have limited support from home and help to develop students’ self-advocacy skills.
- Support and coordinate with other school personnel to provide immediate responsive services and family, personal and crisis situations.
- Be an active member of the Student Assistance Team
- Maintain awareness of current school and community resources for students in crisis and make appropriate referrals.

**Academic Advising & Progress Monitoring**
- Review student academic progress, including credit attainment, and support students with the development of 4-year academic plans
- Support and review social and/or emotional progress of students.
- Support students with post-secondary planning, including career exploration and college search/planning.
- Take appropriate intervention and referral action when students are not successful.
- Monitor student attendance.

**Consultation and Communication Responsibilities**
- Maintain effective communication with teachers and parents regarding student progress.
- Manage and support 504 plans for assigned students.
- Provide staff and parent consulting services regarding student learning, student responsibility and other developmental needs.
- Attend IEP meetings for assigned students, as needed and appropriate.
- Maintain professional and collegial relations with all faculty and staff.

**Coordination**
- Assist in the referral of students and families to appropriate community/state agencies.
- Support and facilitate the transition from middle to high school, including consideration of appropriate student placement.

**Professional Development**
- Participate in school improvement initiatives and ensure that school counseling services are coordinated with school and district efforts.
- Actively participate in a variety of professional development activities in order to stay abreast of current educational and counseling issues and ideas.

**GENERAL**:

- Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Possesses strong skills as a collaborator and a commitment to professional growth.
- Experience with high-school aged students and families.
- Fulfill other duties, as assigned by the school administration.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Master’s Degree in School Counseling.
- State of Maine Department of Education Certification.
- At least two years of counseling experience at the secondary level preferred.
