**Definition**: Under limited supervision supervises law enforcement activities of a squad in the SRPMIC administration division, field operations or criminal investigations division. **This position is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt.**

1. Supervises, monitors, inspects and trains police officers assigned to a Squad in Police activities, during an assigned shift, including the following tasks however not limited to: Planning, organizing, coordinating and assigning staff, reviewing reports, riding patrol as necessary, ensuring that all equipment (including patrol vehicles, radios in-car camera systems, computers, etc.) are properly maintained and fully functional at all times, and conducting periodic and random inspections to ensure staff are following established Training, Policies, Procedures, Law, Safety and Quality Standards during the course of calls for service, field emergencies, crime scene investigations, traffic collisions, arrests, booking procedures, public relations contacts. Utilizes computerized systems and other methods to review police reports, accident reports, citations and other documents to ensure Staff is following established Training, Policies, Procedures, Law and Quality Standards. Meetings to inform staff of policy/procedure changes and to update their understanding of technical law enforcement issues.
2. Prepares statistical activity reports, complaints, affidavits, and other related technical/legal documents; reviews and approves leave requests. Resolves day-to-day operational problems and questions arising from staff and the public.
3. Supervises, monitors, inspects and trains police officers in the proper methodologies to secure and investigate crime scenes to ensure that the collection, preservation, and handling of physical evidence and property meets established professional and legal standards. Interviews/interrogates victims, suspects, and witnesses to obtain and verify information pertinent to the investigation and resolution of a variety of criminal and/or potentially criminal incidents.
4. Supervises, monitors, inspects and trains police officers in the proper methodologies to preserve and document crime scenes by processing the scene for fingerprints and taking still photographs, videotaping, and/or sketching the crime scene. Prepares reports, complaints, affidavits, and other related technical/legal documents regarding the progress, findings, and results of the investigative process. Supervises, monitors, inspects and trains police officers in the proper methodologies of the collection and preservation of case evidence, including ensuring that less experienced staff follow appropriate investigative and chain of custody procedures, sending evidence to crime lab, and coordinating/communicating with the lab regarding processing the evidence.
5. Supervises, monitors, inspects and trains police officers in the proper methodologies to the response to calls and complaints involving robberies, burglaries, homicides, and other criminal activities to secure the crime scene, identify witnesses, conduct follow-up investigations, and re-establish law and order at the scene. Supervises, monitors, inspects and trains police officers in the proper methodologies to appear in court to present evidence and sworn testimony on behalf of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community; trains less experienced staff regarding techniques, processes, and procedure for crime scene processing, evidence collection and/or identification, fingerprinting, and investigative skills.
- 6. Receives, investigates, and responds to citizen complaints, internal employee complaints and prepares written reports on the complaints in accordance with Community and department policy.

7. Gathers intelligence regarding criminal activity; processes and disseminates criminal intelligence reports in accordance with Federal, State, and tribal guidelines; coordinates narcotic/drug arrests with the appropriate Division; coordinates intelligence regarding narcotics, gangs and related criminal activities with other Federal, State, and local agencies.

8. Presents information in writing and orally to Supervisors, Officers, the Public and other personnel. Prepares written performance evaluations. Contributes effectively to meeting the Police Department’s goals and objectives. Assists in monitoring expenditures and assists in the preparation, of the Police Department’s budget.
