**Education and/or Equivalent Experience**:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Exercise Physiology or in a field related to the job, plus two (2) years of experience in administration of corporate wellness or fitness programs, including fitness, nutrition, injury rehabilitation, and referral to medical and behavioral health professionals.
- Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.

- The Fitness and Safety Specialist II duties include leading and programming physical training sessions for public safety cadet programs for EMS and AFD. This position also supplements staffing in the Public Safety Wellness Center medical clinic, taking vitals, conducting spirometry tests, hearing and vision exams as well as resting and stress EKGs. The Specialist also conducts fitness assessments for incumbent firefighters, educating the workforce on exercise and working on fitness equipment requests.

If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin **Driver Safety Program,** you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.**Pay Range**

**Duties, Functions and Responsibilities**
**Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.**
- Provides fitness assessments, including nutrition counseling, to field personnel.
- Assists in the implementation of fitness programs for the department and assists command/management in marketing Wellness and Fitness programs.
- Administers and interprets lifestyle questionnaires and develops personal fitness programs based on findings.
- Monitors flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, aerobic capacity, and other pertinent factors of field personnel.
- Maintains medical files, and schedules appointments for physician.
- Orders supplies for division.
- Performs anthropometrical (girth) measurements.
- Classifies employees according to Coopers Clinic statistics.
- Develops and correlates employee outcomes using a target scoreboard.
- Works personally with individuals who demonstrated weakness in one or more areas in the assessment, in an effort to assist such individual to overall health and wellness, including working directly with return to duty employees as it pertains to fitness rehabilitation.
- Assists in the development of training materials and other strategies to educate and update department on wellness and fitness issues.
- Maintains database on program participates to detect trends in wellness and fitness and develops statistics on natural history from beginning to end of career.
