**Primary Purpose**:Perform mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Work on projects assigned, follow established procedures.**:***
**Qualifications**:***
**TECHNICIAN I**
***
**Education/Certification**:
***
- High school diploma or GED from an approved entity
- ***
- Acceptable driving record as specified by Texas Department of Public Safety for school bus drivers.
- ***
- Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B) with P and S endorsements
- ***
- Minimum of 6 Texas Association for School Bus Technicians (TASBT) certifications or 6 Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications (Automotive A1 - A8, Medium/Heavy Duty Truck T1-T6 or School Bus S1-S7) or must obtain and maintain TASBT and/or ASE within 18 months of employment.

**Major Responsibilities and Duties**:***
**Maintenance and Repairs**:***
- Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical, electrical and electronic problems in vehicles.
***
- Perform minor/major mechanical repairs.
***
- Assist technicians with evaluating mechanical, electrical, and electronic concerns.
***
- Access and utilize printed/electronic service/repair manuals.
***
- Do welding and minor body work.
***
- Service vehicles according to an established preventive maintenance schedule. Rotate and balance tires; change oil and filters; lubricate vehicle parts; inspect and replace hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps; and maintain all fluid levels.
***
- Maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance.
***
- Inspect vehicles and evaluate condition of systems, equipment, accessories, and lights; service as needed.
***
- Demonstrate process of preventive maintenance and visual inspections to mechanic helpers.
***
- Perform preventive maintenance, including bleeding of air tanks, on shop equipment according to established schedules.
***
**Safety**:***
- Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
***
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
***
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
