Cytotechnologist

**Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities**:

- Assists with preparation, staining and coverslipping of cytology specimens when Laboratory Assistant is off
- Assists in Cytology Aspiration procedures that are scheduled with the section.
- Screens gynecological and non-gynecological cases on a daily basis and in a timely manner. 36 hrs/GYN and 24hrs/NGYN from the time received in the laboratory.
- Sign out cases with the Pathologist on (according to schedule).
- Labels and/or verify all Cytology stained slides, compares name, number of slides, clinical information, and gross description against the Cytology requisitions and/or computer screen.
- Change and clean equipment and solutions in the Cytology Aspiration procedure tray, keep Cytology Aspiration procedure supplies in tray stocked.
- Change/rotate GYN and NGYN staining set up as needed.0
- Maintains all records as per regulatory agencies requirements and WESTMED.
- Maintains CME log.
- Participates in any other departmental activities as directed by the Laboratory Director and/or Chief Cytotechnologist.

**Required Qualifications**:

- Bachelor of Science with ASCP Registry and/or Certified Cytology School Degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience screening gynecological, non-gynecological specimens and fine needle aspirations.
- Familiar with Bethesda system for Cytology reporting.
- ThinPrep Certification, experience interpreting special stains and immunohistochemistry preferred.
- Broad knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to deal with confidential information with the utmost discretion. Interpersonal skill necessary to deal courteously and effectively with administration, peers and the public.
- Sufficient technical ability to be able to troubleshoot independently and knowledge to know when to ask for assistance.
- **Pay Range $53/hr to $57/hr**_
