**Surgery Ward **Veterinary Nurse**:

- Overnight**
Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists is seeking a **full-time veterinary surgery ward nurse **to join our surgery team in Buzzards Bay, MA.

**About this role**

The surgery ward nurse is a critical part of the surgery team, caring for patients post-operatively and supporting the surgeons and surgical nurses. The right person who meets the required qualifications will be utilized to function as a vital team member while learning and honing the additional skills necessary to progress in various areas of veterinary medicine.

**Responsibilities and Functions**
- Obtain vital signs, provide food, and monitor patients for pain/comfort following surgical procedures.
- Oversee post-operative care for canine, feline, and exotic patients
- Check IV catheters for patency and bandages for fit and cleanliness.
- Administer oral and intravenous medications according to doctors’ orders.
- Walk postoperative patients, using assistance when required.
- Communicate effectively with the nurses and doctors regarding patients.
- Maintain ward cleanliness, including laundry and washing dishes.

**_ Required Qualifications_**
- Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or technician is required.
- Knowledge of and the ability to confidently administer oral and intravenous medications are required.
- Ability to solve mathematical equations for medication dosages
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Lifting and restraint of pets at least 50 pounds and the ability to work on feet most of the day

**Salary, Schedule, and Benefits Include (but are not limited to)**
- This is an **overnight** **position, Monday through Friday from 1a to 7a,
- Schedules include some weekends and a holiday shift rotation.
