**Duties**:
- Serve as an Instructor in the Natural Sciences Department, United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS).
- Develop, prepare, and teach lessons using laboratory experiments and demonstrations to supplement instruction for post high school and college level courses in science.
- Teach classes in chemistry, physics, and biology—usually 4 sections per term.
- Conduct additional instruction for students needing assistance.
- Keep records of students’ activities, honors, academic achievements, military aptitude, motivation, and other related indicators of performance and potential.
- Conceive, design, and validate laboratory experiments using established methods and procedures, meeting high standards and tailored to the cultural and developmental diversity of the students.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to keep abreast of the varied educational preparedness of the incoming students, particularly diverse and/or disadvantaged students.

**Basic Requirement**:

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
**Specialized Experience**: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) teaching courses in Chemistry, Biology, and/or Physics; 2) developing and/or preparing laboratory experiments; and 3) assessing indicators of performance and/or potential to recommend students for admissions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
- **OR**
- **Education**: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Chemistry, Physics, Biology or any other related fields appropriate to the position.
- **OR**
- **Combination of Education and Experience**: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
**SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)**: Applicants will be evaluated on the following factors:
1) Academic accomplishment (master's degree or PhD preferred) within science education or chemistry, physics, biology or related field as well as course-work in more than one listed discipline. Further, show evidence of ongoing professional development, continuing education, scholarship, etc.
2) Ability to teach multiple science disciplines specifically introductory courses in chemistry, physics, and biology or related applied science.
3) Skill in curriculum design and development for remedial college science courses.
4) Ability to support the personal growth and development of post-high school students from diverse backgrounds through mentorship and extracurricular activities.
5) Ability to design and develop laboratory experiments and demonstrations to include procuring and maintaining laboratory supplies and managing laboratory classrooms and prep areas; meeting safety requirements and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, and other local, state, and federal regulations; and/or assisting with disposal of hazardous materials.
