Summer Camp Kitchen Assistant

Kitchen Assistants passionately incorporate hands-on work into creating nourishing meals under the direction of the Kitchen Director. Kitchen Assistants will assist in preparing vegetarian meals and baked goods for enthusiastic campers. This role focuses on the preparation and timely delivery of wholesome, delicious food to hungry campers and staff alike. Experience working in a professional kitchen is valued, though not required. If you bring eagerness to learn, we will bring excitement to train you. Kitchen Assistants are also strongly encouraged to take part in camp clinics and evening programs to experience the magic of summer camp life.

**Kitchen Assistant Qualities**
- Flexibility (responding to quickly changing schedules and needs)
- Stamina (on the job 24/7, working in a physically demanding environment that requires the utmost care and attention) Communication skills to people of all ages and backgrounds (fellow staff, children, and parents, including those from other countries)
- Patience and compassion (working with children and staff)
- Conflict Resolution (other staff as well as children)
- Ability to work in stressful situation (very tight schedule, high expectation, rapidly changing environment)
- Ability to react quickly and stay calm in high stress environments (accidents/injuries)
- Ability to work with and relate to people of various ages (children/adults

**Kitchen Assistant Principle Duties and Responsibilities**
- Wash, peel, chop vegetables
- Soak and rinse legumes, grains, nuts
- Making fresh soymilk
- Scooping/portioning cookies
- Measuring ingredients for recipes
- Reporting to kitchen director when items are running low
- Keeping workspaces clean
- Maintaining clean storage spaces
- Assistance with stock rotation
- Picking ripe produce from the garden

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Basic knife handling skills
- Proper measuring techniques
- Kitchen sanitation
- FIFO (first in, first out)

**Kitchen Assistant Requirements**
- Must be at least 17 years old
- Be available to work our entire season June-August, including staff prep and camp closure (pre and post summer work opportunities are also available)

- Must have non-skid/ non-slip shoes.
- Reports to Kitchen Director/Dietitian

This is a RESIDENTIAL position, room and board included. Kitchen Assistants will be required to live on campus throughout the season on our mountain of 200 acres. All room and board included with the position.

Pay: $1,600.00 per month

- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Morning shift

Weekly day range:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
