Program Assistant Job Description

**Position**: Victim Witness Program Assistant

**Starting Salary**: $16.83/hr.

**Work Hours**: 40 hours a week

**Job Type**: Full-time

**GENERAL PURPOSE**

The purpose of the position is to provide assistance in the Victim-Witness Program, which is designed to reduce the trauma of victimization and to encourage crime victims and witnesses to cooperate with and participate in the criminal justice system. Position is responsible for providing clerical tasks and assisting in the delivery of services required by the Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act. Performs related work as directed. Reports to the Victim-Witness Program Director.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:
Ability to maintain filing and record keeping systems relating to confidential and sensitive materials and information; work with the public and develop effective working relationships; communicate effectively.

Provides case status to victims and witnesses; provides victims and witnesses with final disposition of their cases

Provides referral support and guidance to victims and witnesses needing community resources.

Demonstrates professional verbal and written communication skills.

Experience docketing and managing multiple calendars

Good problem-solving skills and information gathering techniques.

Ability to maintain punctual and regular attendance

Familiarity with the state and local criminal justice system.

Ability to assist clients by providing information, to perform complex clerical tasks, to work effectively with people

Work Independently, using sound judgment and logic

Make daily rounds to the Police Department, Circuit Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court, and General District Court as requested

Pull cases for each advocate for each court (Circuit, Juvenile & General District Court) a week prior

Provide emotional and informational support to victims and witnesses in the office and at court proceedings

Ability to quickly learn and become proficient with our CIMS program, OCRA, JSVS, VineLink, court website, and Case Management

Ability to maintain a professional demeanor under stressful circumstances
