**Mission or Goal of Unit**:The Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology has an extensive teaching mission in both professional and graduate education, participating in over 36 course offerings addressing gross anatomy, histology, embryology, and neuroanatomy/neuroscience. These programs are offered in the schools of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as in the Dental Hygiene and Graduate Studies programs, serving the needs of a large number of graduate and professional students. In addition to its substantial commitment to the teaching mission of the school and university, the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology also has an extensive research program in the areas of glial cell biology, CNS injury and repair, and neuroplasticity and behavior. The departmental faculty involved in these research activities also participate in the training of multiple MD/PhD and postdoctoral fellows.

- **Required Qualifications**:

- MD and/or PhD degrees with a strong background in all of the anatomical sciences and their presentation in both the medical and dental settings
- An extensive track record in teaching and course direction in both the professional and graduate settings
- Leadership in pedagogy with the preparation of texts, chapters, and/or self-learning packages focusing on varied aspects of the anatomical sciences
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
