Job Description: Optician

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Optician to join our team. As an Optician, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional eyewear solutions to our customers. Your expertise in understanding prescriptions, assisting with frame selection, and ensuring proper fitting will contribute to our goal of enhancing our customers' vision and overall satisfaction. You will also be responsible for confirming patients’ eligibility for materials and services through their insurance.

When not performing optical duties, the Optician will be expected to perform front-desk activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, answering phones, greeting patients, and maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the patient waiting area.

**Responsibilities**:

- Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, concerns, and complaints promptly and professionally. Ensure a positive and personalized experience for each customer. Coordinate with optometrists, biller, and other staff to ensure smooth patient flow.
- Prescription Verification: Verify and confirm prescription for eyewear orders. Analyze prescriptions accurately to determine the appropriate lenses, frames, and other eyewear solutions for customers.
- Insurance/Billing: Verify insurance coverage and benefits for patients prior to their appointments or eyewear purchases. Work within the optical billing system on entering charges.
- Lens Selection Assistance: Educate customers on various lens options, coatings, and enhancements available to optimize their visual experience. Explain lens features, benefits, and maintenance guidelines to customers.
- Frame Selection and Styling: Assist customers in selecting frames that suit their style, preferences, and visual needs while considering factors like facial features, lifestyle, and fashion trends.
- Measurements and Fitting: Take precise measurements of customers' facial features, pupillary distance, and optical centers to ensure accurate fitting of lenses. Adjust and align frames to achieve proper fit, comfort, and visual clarity.
- Frame and Lens Ordering: Place orders for frames, lenses, and other eyewear accessories, ensuring accurate specifications and timely delivery. Monitor inventory levels and restock as needed.
- Dispensing of Glasses and Contact Lenses: Review orders and ensure proper fitment when providing optical products to patients. Collecting all outstanding payments once products are given to patients.
- Repairs and Adjustments: Perform repairs, adjustments, and minor troubleshooting on eyewear, such as replacing screws, soldering frames, and adjusting temple arms, to maintain optimal functionality.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of customer interactions, orders, prescriptions, and inventory using appropriate software systems.
- Product Knowledge: Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and eyewear products. Share knowledge with colleagues and educate customers on new products and innovations.

Qualifications:
Preferred (Minimum Requirements below, plus):

- Completion of an opticianry program or certification (e.g. ABO certification) as an Optician
- At least two years of experience working as an Optician

Minimum Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of experience working as an Optician
- Proficiency in using optical tools and equipment for measurements, adjustments, and repairs. Familiarity with lens types, coatings, and frame materials.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing measurements, fitting, and order processing.
- Dedication to providing exceptional customer service and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with customers and colleagues. Ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining quality and efficiency.
- Proficiency in using computerized systems for order processing, inventory management, and record-keeping.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and privacy of customer information.

Application Instructions:
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
