ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Initiates appropriate action to correct faulty conditions of vehicles and equipment; pumps gasoline or diesel fuel into vehicles; diagnoses mechanical problems and makes routine repairs on all equipment; washes vehicles and fire apparatuses; maintains mowing and landscaping; cleans fire stations and facilities; and performs general janitorial services.
May supervise and/or instruct helpers, adjusts equipment as needed for specialized operations; performs minor tuneup; may do clerical work as it pertains to maintenance record keeping and report; in charge of maintenance of fire station; sweeps, mops, waxes or polishes floors, replaces burned out light bulbs; replaces lavatory supplies, unstops lavatories and toilets; disposes of waste paper, moves office furniture; performs related work as required, cleans restrooms.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Answer phone calls and radio calls when clerical staff is out. Serve as public greeter during station tours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities - Must have mechanical knowledge; skill in use of hand tools and power tools used in repair of gas and diesel equipment; good knowledge of particular characteristics and operating procedures of fire and emergency equipment and vehicles; understand oral and written instructions; knowledge of building maintenance and cleaning practices, equipment and supplies; ability to perform maintenance and caretaker tasks without immediate supervision. Must have minimum computer skills and knowledge. Must be able to drive large trucks.

Education and Experience:
Completion of high school or GED equivalent; experience as a journeyman mechanic; experience in janitorial or related custodial work.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A. Must have Texas Commercial Driver's License with a good driving record.
B. Skilled in use of mechanic tools, drills and equipment.
C. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain and establish a preventive maintenance program. Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with employees, supervisor, vendors and the public.
