**2024 SUMMER SCIENCE TEACHER POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT**

**TITLE**: Science Teacher

**CLASSIFICATION**:Summer Position/Contingent I

**SALARY RANGE**: $4000

**EMPLOYMENT DATES**:June 24 - August 2, 2024

Mandatory training will be held the week of June 17, 2024 (Hybrid).

**DESCRIPTION**:To provide specialized, short-term instruction to Upward Bound students as a way to enhance students' ability to gain content mastery and be successful in the respective content area.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Under the direction of the Director, the Upward Bound Summer Science Teacher is responsible for providing educational services to first-generation, low-income high school students. The Summer Science Teacher collects and analyzes academic data about individuals through classwork, homework, quizzes, and other professional sources to aid students in achieving a higher science grade the following year.

**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES**:

- Provides specialized, short-term instruction to high school students.
- Develops and correlates curriculum and instruction to the PGCPS Common Core standards within the respective content areas of high school Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
- Utilizes best practices regarding classroom management in order to foster student persistence and success.
- Collaborates closely with other Upward Bound Advisors, tutors, and other appropriate personnel to maximize academic benefits for each student.
- Attends program meetings as assigned.
- Manages time and classroom effectively.
- Maintains up-to-date records of student grades and progress.
- Assists with additional summer program duties as assigned.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:Bachelor's Degree in the teaching disciple (Physics/Biology/Chemistry) Master's Degree Preferred

**CERTIFICATIONS**:MD Teaching License (or license from DC or VA)
