Children's Activities Coordinator

**Hours**:
Sunday-Thursday 11am-7pm

**Position Qualifications**:
Minimum

Associate’s degree in social work, child development or related field and one year of experience in a social service setting. Must be physically capable of lifting up to 30 pounds and must possess a clean driving record.

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field plus one year of experience in direct services with children. Bilingual in Spanish and English.

**Primary Functions**:

- Organizes and implements structured play activity programs at least 5 times per week for child residents within the shelter.
- Plans at least 2-4 regular activities, special events, field trips and other social and cultural enrichment activities per month.
- Supervises and engages client’s children when the client is attending counseling, case management, group, legal, or other direct services meeting offered at the shelter.
- Assists child residents in identifying and ventilating feelings in a constructive manner as needed.
- Always models and teaches non-violent discipline and conflict resolution skills to child residents
- Maintains case notes as required by funding sources for the children in shelter in accordance with all established guidelines
- Provides transportation for clients, as needed.
- Ensures programs stay within budget guidelines (i.e. activity funds, materials funds, volunteer appreciation gifts, and equipment for the children) by monitoring expenditures.
- Coordinates all activities for the mentor program including:

- Recruiting volunteers and interns
- Maintaining bi-weekly communication with the Volunteer Program Manager about the volunteer recruiting efforts
- Provides orientation to new children’s program volunteers in addition to ongoing training and supervision.
- Assesses volunteers’ needs regarding childcare and provides input into children’s program development.
- Maintains weekly communication with other staff and other MCWC programs regarding resident and/or former resident needs and problems.
- Attends in-services and structured training.
- Attends Shelter and other MCWC staff meetings.
- Provides monthly activity, service, and statistical reports as required by the 2nd business day of the following month.

**Supervises**:
Volunteers assigned to the children’s program.

**Working Conditions**:
Normally works regularly scheduled hours including evenings as designated for groups. Includes weekends.

Pay: $13.00 - $14.00 per hour
