**Position Summary**

We are looking for a passionate innovator to be our next Ethnic Studies teacher You’ll develop high-quality lessons and projects that drive critical thinking, expose students to new media, and align with our whole-child approach by engaging students in work that has a direct impact on their community. You'll equitably support the development of each child through restorative practices and social-emotional learning strategies. You will build meaningful relationships with families because you believe they are partners, and play a critical role in student success. You will also receive weekly training and support through high-quality professional development and tailored one-on-one coaching.

Below are excerpts from the California Department of Education’s Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum that will drive the direction of our programming:

- “Ethnic studies helps bring students and communities together. This does not mean glossing over differences, avoiding difficult issues, or resorting to clichés about how we are all basically alike. It should do so by simultaneously doing three things: (1) addressing racialized experiences and ethnic differences as real and unique; (2) building greater understanding and communication across ethnic differences; and (3) revealing underlying commonalities that can bind by bringing individuals and groups together. Ethnic studies is designed to benefit all students.”_

**Essential Job Functions**:

- Facilitate students’ mastery of standards through long-term planning, daily and weekly lesson plans, and execution of rigorous and engaging daily instruction.
- Develop expertise with a variety of methods that drive student learning.
- Maintain a safe, supportive and strengths focused learning environment
- Consistently integrate coaching feedback.
- Build positive classroom culture through fostering student relationships and utilization of classroom management techniques
- Implement and support school-wide social-emotional programming and restorative practices.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, families, and colleagues.
- Approach professional development with commitment and reflection.
- Fulfill other professional obligations as needed with enthusiasm, commitment, and flexibility.
