$72,639 (Class II, Step 6) - $100,286 (VII, Step 10) Annually

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Athletics, the Athletics Counselor Coordinator shall provide information and counseling support to advance the educational success, onboarding, retention, and academic goal completion of student athletes. The incumbent will achieve this by providing academic, personal, compliance and eligibility, and career counseling for student athletes. They will develop and implement academic and personal success services specifically designed to address the needs and challenges unique to student athletes, while serving as the campus expert and liaison to internal and external resources, partnerships, and affiliates.

Working independently under general direction, major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
**Athletics Counseling**
- Provides academic, personal, and career related counseling to prospective, new, and continuing student athletes.
- Assists student athletes in identifying their educational and career goals and developing abbreviated and comprehensive educational plans in line with student-stated educational goals.
- Collaborates with athletics eligibility specialist(s) on compliance and eligibility rules
- Interprets degree and university transfer requirements, policies, and procedures unique to athletes.
- Develops effective assessment tools that assist the college with understanding the specific needs of student athletes.
- Teaches counseling courses and facilitates academic success workshops pertaining to career planning, college success, and other personal development courses offered within the Counseling division.
- Designs and maintains processes to track academic success of student athletes.
- Prepares oral and written reports related to issues and concerns impacting student athletes.
- Participates in college-wide planning and evaluations processes.
- Plans and facilitates support programs for student athletes that result in the educational growth of students.
- Participates in Counseling divisional meetings and trainings to maintain competencies within the educational counseling profession.
- Provides and reviews required forms related to the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, II, and III, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) transfer rules, and Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) requirements.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of residency requirements.
- This position may include a combination of day, evening, and weekend assignments.

**Athletics Coordination - approximately 25% of the position**
- Develops, designs, and implements programs and services that provide support and academic success related to various issues and challenges unique to student athletes.
- Oversees the creation and organization of programs such as learning communities in support of the academic success, retention, graduation, and/or transfer of student athletes.
- Creates and conducts assessments of student services and programs with the goals of assisting student athletes to enrich their campus experience and enhance their academic success.
- Collaborates with various campus departments and programs such as Financial Aid, EOPS, and A.R.C. to create more inclusive and enriching experiences for student athletes and to improve outcomes related to the onboarding, retentions, graduation, and/or transfer of student athletes.
