**Diakonia Kitchen Support Staff**:
**POSITION**:Kitchen House Support Staff

**STATUS**: Full-Time Hourly position

**SUPERVISED BY**: Housing Coordinator

**OVERVIEW**:
Kitchen Support Staff provides the basic need of food for our shelter clients. Kitchen Support staff will provide for the daily needs of 3 meals and snacks daily for the shelter clients while working cooperatively with Diakonia’s team: Housing Coordinator, management staff, volunteers, and coworkers. All Support staff are an essential part of helping our clients be successful in their shelter stay, improving life skills with meal preparation, menu planning, cleaning, personal care, etc. Kitchen Support staff will adhere to all Diakonia’s policies, procedures, and mission.

**RESPONSIBILITES/DUTIES**:

- Kitchen Support Staff are responsible for ensuring that Food License expectations are met with all meal preparation, storage, and serving requirements.
- Kitchen Support Staff will notify Housing Coordinator of any concerns, problems, needs for providing shelter clients 3 meals/day and snacks.
- Kitchen Support staff will work with the Food Pantry Coordinator in utilizing all supplies, groceries available to develop a menu, weekly menu of meals for breakfast, lunch, and supper for shelter clients and support staff to follow.
- Kitchen Support staff will monitor and submit work orders for any kitchen equipment not operating properly and/or effectively.
- Kitchen Support Staff will ensure that the kitchen area, handwashing station, refrigerators, walk-in freezer are in clean and sanitary condition, working alongside the Food Pantry Coordinator in this area, since all refrigerators, and walk-in freezer are also used by the Food Pantry program.
- Adhere to the policies, procedures, and mission set forth by Diakonia Inc. and help our shelter clients adhere to the guidelines they agree on upon intake for our services.
- Maintain an atmosphere of safety, well-being and confidentiality for all clients served.
- Help shelter clients get familiar with the kitchen area, menu planning, and restricted areas for food storage, etc. (See Shelter Rules)
- Kitchen Support staff is expected to help with general support staff duties when needed/as requested.
- Provide training and monitor clients with their daily chores and responsibilities, assist with any needed chores or cleaning to maintain a safe and clean environment for all clients
- Distribute food through Diakonia food pantry and SNAP information
- Complete administrative functions including but not limited to; documentation in client files if needed/requested, completion of required forms/documentation, making entries in the Communications logbook, answering phones, completing forms, and assisting with intakes and referrals if and/or as needed.
- May be asked to help with daily room checks are completed in accordance with Diakonia’s expectations and help clients with instruction of what is needed to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Provide or make provision for guests’ daily needs included but not limited to; preparation of meals and snacks, encouragement of personal care, and household maintenance
- Provide assistance to other team members and/or Diakonia programs as requested
- Participate in staff meetings and training as requested
- Other duties as assigned by Housing Coordinator and/or other management staff

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- High school graduate or equivalent, associate's degree preferred
- Clear background check that would not limit serving our population
- Serv-Safe certification (current and active)
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum of one-year experience in Social Service or related field.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays due to 24/7 operation
- This position includes physical demands of; a lot of moving in and around the facility grounds, climbing stairs, bending, and occasional lifting approximately 25 to 35 pounds.

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
