**Massachusetts Senior Action Council** (MSAC) is a multiracial, grassroots organization led by concerned seniors across Massachusetts. We cross-neighborhood, racial, religious, and socioeconomic lines to find common ground upon which to act on our values. Through leadership development, organizing, and popular education, we use the power of our collective voice to work for economic, social, and racial justice for all seniors and our communities. Founded in 1981, Senior Action has a powerful history of winning meaningful change and is respected as one of the most dynamic, effective grassroots groups of organized lower-income seniors in the country.

Massachusetts Senior Action Council is now seeking a full-time community organizer to support its growing membership. This position is responsible for building a powerful base of grassroots leaders who can build long-term power and achieve short terms victories. This is an exciting position for an individual with a passion for community organizing, racial justice, and social change.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Support local chapter members to identify and carry out local and statewide policy campaigns and voter empowerment campaigns by:

- Facilitate strategy discussions, and set goals with members,
- Recruitment and outreach with members to the local community, and
- Work with members to implement tactics and reach campaign goals
- Coordinate monthly chapter meetings, local campaigns, and action committees with chapter leaders
- Develop leadership skills of membership base.
- Identify potential leaders
- Provide individualized support and development for emerging leaders
- Develop and conduct popular education workshops to enhance leadership skills and understanding of strategic issues
- Work closely with statewide staff and membership to ensure that organizing work in chapters across the state is well coordinated.
- Sustain & Strengthen local coalition of community organizations and allies.
- Develop campaign and organizational materials, and contribute to MSAC communication activities.
- Conduct fundraising & local media work under the supervision of Executive Director.
- Provide (or arrange) transportation as needed to support local organizing and enable members to participate in MSAC organizing activities.

**Qualifications & Experience**
- Passion and commitment to grassroots social change, collective efforts to promote social justice, and the empowerment of low-income, working-class people.
- Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
- Capacity to think strategically and analytically about social, economic, cultural, and political issues affecting a community.
- Desire to learn and openness to challenge.
- Experience working with communities of color and lower-income communities.
- Previous community organizing (issue, labor, or other) experience is preferred.
- Must own and operate a car and be willing to transport members.
- Well-organized, punctual, self-motivated, quick learner interested in a broad range of issues.
- Multi-lingual skills are a plus (special interest in Spanish and Cantonese)
- People of color are strongly encouraged to apply
- Two-year commitment expected.

**Compensation**:Salary is competitive and based on experience. Benefits include individual health and dental coverage, 14 paid holidays, paid vacation, and personal leave.
