Job Summary:
This is a professional, operational management position responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and evaluating all aspects of the effective economical management and maintenance of City vehicles and related fleet equipment as well as all work performed by the Fleet Management Division of Public Works. Assignments and expectations are received from the Public Works Director or their designee and are usually broad in scope requiring independent judgment and decision-making.

Hiring range: $77,667.00 - $89,310.00

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management- Effectively manages assignments and priorities to ensure the fulfillment of projects, tasks, and responsibilities- Follows suggested procedures to assure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety and risk avoidance- Coordinates division data for the preparation of the department's budget; prepares justifications and monitors line items as needed- Communicates with other departments to assist in their budget or capital improvement plan preparation- Selects, trains, motivates and evaluates assigned personnel

Technical- Establishes an effective and economical, vehicle asset preventive maintenance program and creates maintenance schedules for all the City vehicles and related equipment- Plays a key role in planning, coordinating, and administering the City's vehicle and equipment replacement program- Confers with staff, both within and outside of the Fleet division as appropriate- Responsible for the overall maintenance and upkeep of the fleet garage and automotive parts room facility as well as the City's Fuel Management System- Researches, analyzes and prepares reports as directed- Investigates the need and determines the type of new equipment needed to properly maintain City-owned vehicles in accordance with City, state, and federal regulations- Responds to and resolves customer inquiries and complaints- Ensures that vehicle maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation work is assigned to the proper mechanics with the lead mechanics and fleet supervisor- Reviews fleet status, analyzes equipment usage, and makes recommendations based upon user department needs- Researches and consults with vendors concerning vehicle and equipment specifications, warranties, performance criteria, and available options or equivalents- Designs modifications to equipment as needed- Coordinates with user departments and prepares bid specifications for their vehicles and equipment; takes vehicle purchases to the City Commission for approval- Reviews and recommends bid awards and monitors progress- Works to stay knowledgeable of current vehicle and equipment advances, developments, and technology- Plays a key role in the coordination of the division’s safety program, keeps abreast of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations- Serves as the division environmental officer, stays abreast of applicable Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations- Works with employees to correct deficiencies- Identifies sources for other necessary training and conducts training sessions; maintains department training records- Communicates with the Office of Management and Budget to ensure all purchases comply with
