We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Zoning Technician to join our team and support our efforts in managing land use, zoning regulations, and POWTS (Private Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems) sanitation within the county.

Position Overview:
As a Zoning Technician, you will play a vital role in administering and enforcing zoning ordinances, conducting research and analysis on land use issues, and providing technical support to county officials, developers, and community members. Additionally, you will oversee POWTS sanitation regulations to ensure the proper installation and maintenance of private wastewater treatment systems in compliance with county ordinances and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct site inspections and assessments to verify compliance with zoning regulations, including setbacks and other requirements for POWTS installations.
- Provide guidance and assistance to property owners, developers, and the public on zoning requirements, POWTS regulations, and procedures.
- Collaborate with planning staff and other departments to develop and update zoning maps, ordinances, and regulations, including those pertaining to POWTS sanitation.
- Conduct research and analysis on zoning issues, land use trends, and best practices in zoning administration and POWTS management.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for zoning-related matters, including POWTS regulations, to county officials and decision-makers.
- Participate in public meetings, hearings, and workshops to present zoning proposals, POWTS regulations, and gather input from stakeholders.

Qualifications:

- Associate or bachelor's degree in urban planning, geography, public administration, environmental science, or a related field.
- Previous experience in zoning administration, land use planning, or related field preferred, with knowledge of POWTS regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in GIS software and other technical tools used in zoning analysis and mapping.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with Wisconsin zoning laws and regulations, as well as state regulations regarding POWTS sanitation, is a plus.
