**Description**

The Government Affairs Specialists will contribute to the local, state, federal and grassroots advocacy responsibilities carried out by the Department of

Government Affairs. The Specialist will coordinate grassroots activities to support key policy initiatives that impact the hospital and our mission, and work with members of the team to develop and implement legislative advocacy education programs. The Specialist is responsible to assist in the research and coordination of testimony, letters and policy papers, cover local and state legislative hearings, and analyze legislation.

**Qualifications**

**Minimum Education**
Bachelor's Degree (required)

**Minimum Work Experience**
2 years Experience working for state or federal legislative body or equivalent government relations experience (required)

**Required Skills/Knowledge**
Understanding of legislative process; strong oral and written communication skills

Some knowledge of hospital and/or health policy desired.

Demonstrate basic faculties in legislative and political strategic thinking.

Demonstrate basic skills in legislative analysis to support basic departmental responsibilities.

**Functional Accountabilities**
**Legislative Advocacy & Communication**
- Draft hearing summaries, testimony, letters to support basic departmental responsibilities.
- Demonstrate strong written communication skills, include proficiency in basic grammar, to represent GEA with professionalism.
- Respond to informational or internal constituent service requests.

**Work Coordination/ Organization**
- Maintain jurisdictional legislative database to serve as a resource for research and reference.

- Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation

- Draft internal and external advocacy communications to raise awareness of government affairs and advocacy activities.
- Coordinate with Children’s Hospitals on initiatives to help position the hospital as an influential grassroots leader.
- Identify ways to involve internal experts on targeted advocacy efforts to support the advocacy and employer of choice strategic pillars.
- Represent CNMC/GA’s BearNet advocacy network at internal and external events to grow the network.
