**POSITION OVERVIEW**

The Community Education Advocate supports the prevention and intervention services of the Community Education department at SAVE. The Advocate will: 1) conduct prevention education presentations on healthy and abusive relationships at various school sites and for the general community; 2) assist with the development of curriculum topics, activities, and awareness campaigns; 3) provide crisis intervention and support to youth; 4) provide support for SAVE’s community-facing prevention efforts, including those created by SAVE’s youth leadership team.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
- Present to diverse youth and general community populations about healthy and abusive relationships using SAVE’s Non-Violence Education curriculum
- Manage discussions about sensitive issues in an inclusive, thoughtful, and appropriate manner
- Adapt content based on the social climate, current events, and youth population, etc.
- Support youth who need to connect individually and refer participants to appropriate services as needed
- Create and present alternative presentations as requested
- Stay on top of new trends, tools, research, resources, etc., to aid in the development, creation, and designing of materials for the Non-Violence Education curriculum and Community Education program
- Support the preparation and delivery of DV education for new advocates during SAVE’s 40-Hour Training
- Support SAVE’s community outreach efforts through tabling and awareness events
- Collect, calculate, and enter data into the client database
- Help facilitate biweekly meetings with SAVE’s youth leadership team
- Participate in restorative practices with youth who have caused harm, when requested
- Develop strong connections with students, educators, administrators, participants, and service providers
- Help plan and implement teen dating violence awareness events
- Engage in regular supervision with supervisor for support and feedback, goal setting, and to identify areas of growth
- Engage in opportunities to grow professionally.

**NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
- As needed, including but not limited to as deemed by Supervisor:

- Attend staff meetings and trainings as requested
- Provide input into program planning and developments
- Assist with training new staff members and volunteers as needed

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS**:
**REQUIRED **Minimum Knowledge, Skill, Education/Training, and Experience Requirement(s)
- Strong writing and oral skills
- Comfort discussing sensitive topics with youth and community members
- Ability to deliver material and facilitate discussion with enthusiasm
- Ability to efficiently adapt to various settings to engage the community effectively
- Ability to build rapport with youth in a short period of time
- Leadership and interpersonal skills
- Comfort working independently as well as in a team
- Social justice knowledge, including domestic violence and its intersections
- Commitment to preventing domestic violence and/or passion for working with youth
- Availability during school hours (Monday - Friday: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm)
- Basic knowledge utilizing Microsoft and Google Suite, graphic resources, word processing, etc
- Commitment to the mission and values of SAVE
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to schools and other presentation sites
- A valid California driver’s license, insurance, and access to an automobile. Proof of insurance and loss of payee endorsement is Must meet agency’s driving requirements

**PREFERRED Knowledge, Skill, Education/Training, and Experience Requirement(s)**
- 40-hour Domestic Violence Counselor certificate.
- College degree or experience in the domestic violence field.
- Experience with prevention or educational background.
- Connection to a social justice, gender, or youth-oriented causes.
- Experience working with youth.
- Analytical skills to interpret information, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, develop, and implement responsible strategies.
- Ability to convey ideas, information, and training through public presentation, verbal, and written communication.
