**POSITION TITLE: Meat Clerk/Stocker**
**ACCOUNTABLE TO: Meat Manager**

**PRIMARY OBJECTIVE**
To provide ordering and stocking support for the Meat Department.
**NATURE AND SCOPE**
Emphasis in this position is on maintaining the proper stock levels for maximum
sales potential and variety. Primary learning challenge is product knowledge and
proficiency in ordering. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, social
skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing, math, light to moderate lifting, walking,
operation of forklift, pallet jack, box cutter and ordering machine. Position functions and
work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction are
provided by the Meat Manager, Meat Merchandiser, or person in charge.
**ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS**
1. Provides friendly and efficient customer service by demonstrating sincerity,
patience and respect in all customer interactions.
2. Throughout the store, greets customers in a genuine and friendly manner. Learns
customer names and uses them respectfully in greetings.
3. Assists customers throughout the store by:
- Escorting them to products they are looking for
- Loading or unloading heavy items and assisting with products that are out
of reach
- Offering product and/or recipe suggestions and recommendations
- Responding to customers’ questions and requests in a timely manner
- Treating them as the most important people in the store
4. Sincerely thanks customers for their business and choosing our store.
5. Demonstrates teamwork to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant working
and shopping environment.
6. Orders and maintains processed and pre-packaged Meat Department product
- Maintains knowledge of product movement and specials
- Works with Meat Manager on display building and preparation
7. Receives fresh and pre-packaged deliveries and writes credits and shortages
- Ensures piece count matches invoice
- Monitors expiration dates for freshness
- Follows security procedures

- Processes invoices properly
- Ensures proper pricing in all necessary systems
**Functional Requirements**
Frequent: Physical - lifting/carrying 10 to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling 150 to
2000 lbs., reaching, squatting, turning, kneeling, equipment
operation (fork lift, pallet jack, flatbed, box cutter, automatic wrapping
machine, semi-automatic wrapper, manual wrapper, ordering machine,
meat slicer, scales, racks, compactor), walking, standing
Mental - math, reading, writing, judgment/decision making,
social skills/verbal interaction, memorization
Environmental - working with a hot surface, extended exposure to
the cooler (28 to 32 degrees)
Occasional: Physical - lifting/carrying 40 to 75 lbs., kneeling
8. Stocks, rotates and faces pre-packaged meat products
- Consistently rotates product in cases and coolers to ensure proper
refrigeration and freshness
- Ensures cases are full and neat
- Ensures all items are correctly priced and signed
- Sets displays and cases
- Scales and prices, codes and dates variable weight items
- Wraps bulk frozen product when needed on floor
9. Assists customers with requests and information
- Ensures customer satisfaction
- Assists with special customer orders
- Provides product information and location
- Answers department calls
10. Follows all store and department policies and procedures
11. Assists in performing meat wrapping, weighing and pricing
- Completes assignments in allotted time
- Wraps meat on automatic wrapper, semi-automatic wrapper and manual
wrapper, following proper procedures for each
- Wraps all designated fresh meat before frozen or smoked
- Ensures all meat is properly priced and labeled at all times
- Monitors quality of product to ensure appearance meets Pick ‘n Save
standards
- Refrigerates product immediately after wrapping or weighing
- Maintains wrapping machine

- Informs management of any problems with product, equipment, and any
other daily needs for the area

12. Assists in vendor contact
13. Maintains a clean and organized work and storage area
- Picks up and compacts cardboard
- Ensures that trash is removed
- Stores overstock properly
14. Follows all store and department policies and procedures
15. Education and/or Experience
- High school education (or concurrent enrollment in an educational
institution) preferred but not required
