The Youth, and Young Adult Campus Minister (YYCM) reports to and works closely with the Pastor and Director of Faith Formation and is responsible for cultivating/creating a Youth Ministry, a Young Adult Ministry and serving as a Campus Minister to St. Mary Catholic School (pre-K through grade 8). The YYCM reports to the Director of Faith Formation regarding performance evaluation, benefits, budget, etc.

**Fr. James’s Vision for this position**

Fr. James wants to hire someone who is on fire for Christ and who desires heaven above all things; to help form the youth, young adults and school children of St. Mary’s Parish into true disciples.

This person must:

- Have a deep prayer life.
- Know and love the teachings of the Catholic Church, live them, and be able to articulate them to others.
- Teach others by his/her own example as they live out the Faith of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Love the Mass, Confession, Adoration, Mary, St. Joseph and all the saints.
- Have energy and enthusiasm and joy

In addition to the duties listed below, the YYCM shall perform other duties as assigned. The duties listed below are all the responsibility of the YYCM; however, where appropriate, some of these duties may be delegated to and performed by other staff members or volunteers under the supervision of the YYCM and Director of Faith Formation.

Confirmation Preparation
- Collaborate with the Director of Faith Formation to ensure we have a Confirmation program that is truly forming disciples, inspiring kids to be holy and faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church
- Ensure all parents of children who have not been confirmed (usually eighth grade) are made aware of the preparation process for confirmation.
- Oversee a formation process that engages not only the children but the parents.
- Teach the Confirmation Classes as the Primary Catechist, and form a team of catechists to assist in the teaching/formation
- Schedule and coordinate a parents’ information session.
- Schedule and coordinate group formation sessions for children (and parents).
- Schedule and coordinate opportunities to receive the sacrament of Penance.
- Schedule and coordinate a one-day pilgrimage/retreat activity at the beginning and end of the formation program.
- It is expected that the kids to be confirmed will attend Mount 2000 at Mount St. Mary’s University each year—usually in January or February.
- Collect necessary information prior to agreeing to admit children to the sacrament.
- Schedule and coordinate the visit of the bishop to administer the sacrament of Confirmation, including necessary rehearsal (usually same day).
- Make sure there is a plan to keep the children engaged after they are confirmed

Youth Faith Formation
- Run and develop a weekly night for high-school students that truly inspires them to live Catholic lives
- Assembles a core team of adults to help run the Youth Nights
- Provide formation for volunteers (as necessary).
- Develop small groups for high school students
- Provide formation for mentors of small groups.
- Schedule and coordinate large group activities for high school and middle school students, respectively.
- Take a group to Steubenville each summer

Campus Minister to Elementary School
- Works with the Pastor, Principal and Director of Faith Formation to come up with a plan to evangelize the student body
- Visits one class each week to talk to them about the Faith
- Works with the Pastor, Principal and Director of Faith to provide a “in-school” retreat once in the Fall and once in the Spring semester
- Works with the Pastor, Principal and Director of Faith and teachers to provide Eucharistic Adoration opportunities appropriate to each grade
- Serves as a bridge from the Parish to the School
- Helps the Pastor put on semi-regular nights to evangelize the parents of the school children

Young Adults Ministry
- Works with the Pastor, Principal and Director of Faith to develop a Young Adult program at St. Mary’s that forms them, teaches them to pray and helps foster fraternity
- Creates a way for young adults to serve the Hagerstown community (i.e. to help the poor, homeless, addicts, etc.).
- Fosters vocations, sacramental prep, prayer, faith in the young adult community
- Works with neighboring parishes to minister to our young adults

General Responsibilities
- Works for the evangelization and catechesis of all the youth, young adults and school children.
- Administers Worthy of the Call training to children aged 14 - 17 in accordance with Archdiocesan policies.
- Works with the Director of Faith Formation to maintain a budget for all areas of formation.
- Attends parish staff meetings.
- Collaborates with school principal and faculty as needed.
- Maintains regular office hours.
- Is available to parishioners to address their needs.
