**General Description**:
Private residential high school in Upper Nyack, NY is seeking a Recreation Director. The overall goal of the recreation director is to create programs and activities that teach and reinforce proper modes of adolescent recreation. The Recreation Director will provide the opportunity for Summit youth to exercise, socialize and share common interests through organized recreational and cultural activities. The goal is participation in healthy, pro-social activities by all adolescents in Summit’s care.

**Schedule**: Monday - Friday - 11am - 7pm

**Specific Responsibilities**:

- Develop and implement recreational protocols, programs, and activities in a manner that promotes the physical and social/emotional development of each child at the Summit Children’s Residence Center
- Promote activities in a way that piques students’ interests. Activities may include (but are not limited to): Sports, Trips, Drama, Social Activities, Arts and Crafts, Dance/ Music, Gardening, Relaxation Techniques (Yoga, meditation) and field trips
- Hire and schedule appropriately qualified personnel to supervise and conduct all recreational activities. Maintain high expectations for recreation staff behavior, supervision and enthusiastic participation.
- The Summit School uses a behavioral program based on the framework of Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports called The WISE Program (Where you belong, Involved, Safe and Ever Respectful). The Recreation Director would be asked to plan, organize and link activities, trips and programming to the WISE program and collaborate to improve and update the WISE Program.
- Coordinate all after school and weekend structured activities for children in the program.
- Evaluate the overall need, cost, quality, and effectiveness of activities and programs and recommend improvements and changes.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of recreation equipment and grounds.
- Arrange for transport of personnel, participants, supplies, and equipment as necessary for recreation activities.
- Develop a weekly calendar for activities that is distributed to all Summit staff. Prepare announcements, bulletins, flyers, calendars, and other promotional material.
- Requisition, secure, and inventory necessary materials, supplies and equipment.
- Motivate residents to become involved in recreation programs by participating and leading specific activities.
- Ensure that all children have the proper parental permission/waivers to participate and attend off-campus trips.
- Ensure that any student with a medical restriction does not participate in activities that they are not medically cleared to participate in.
- Ensure that activities and events feature entertainment options that are appropriate for the age/emotional/social well-being of the children.
- Communicate (or designate someone to communicate) to the on-duty supervisor when any children leave the campus on a recreation activity and again upon their return.
- Conduct annual written evaluations of all recreation employees.
- Confer with members of the treatment team & prepare and submit reports and charts to the treatment team to reflect patients' reactions and evidence of progress or regression. Obtain information from medical records, medical staff, family members and the patients, themselves, to assess patients' capabilities, needs and interests.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in related field
- At least 1 year of experience in related field working with children

Pay: $58,000.00 per year
