Marketing and Communications Director

**Duties**:
If you are selected as the Director, Marketing and Communications, you will:

- Develop and implement a communications strategy to present the CVC’s mission, vision and programs. Lead CVC-wide internal and external communications efforts with a multifaceted approach incorporating a variety of communication techniques tailored to specific audiences. Lead the effort to establish and maintain a strong and consistent brand identity for the CVC. Conceptualizes and executes the public image of the CVC as the face of the legislative branch of government and a symbol of democracy through design and branding in print and digital media. Develop, shape and lead decisions about print and digital content consistent with the CVC’s mission and to further the CVC’s position as a premier destination in Washington, D.C.
- Administer and manage the publication and dissemination of information about the CVC to Congress, Congressional staff, the public and the media; Develop strategies to generate awareness of the CVC activities and to promote those activities; provide direct support to the Architect of the Capitol and to the Chief Executive Officer by providing testimonial reports for the House and the Senate Committees; possess a high level of diplomacy and professionalism; represent the CVC and the Architect of the Capitol at presentations at various locations to professional groups and high levels of government and dignitaries.
- Develop new insights into situations; question conventional approaches; encourage new ideas and innovations; design and implement new or cutting-edge programs/processes. Make clear and convincing oral presentations to individuals and groups, explaining and advocating facts and ideas which actively promote and advance CVC outreach.
- Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with organizations involved in the special events and partnerships. Respond to external and internal questions regarding the special events and partnerships under consideration or underway. Work in groups and teams, conducts briefings and other meetings, clarifies information, facilitates an open exchange of ideas and gains cooperation from others to obtain information and accomplish communications goals.
- Oversee special events and manage Congressional liaisons and communications personnel. Perform administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates. Observe and conduct work performance critiques and provide for employee skills enrichment. Manage the organizational unit’s budget and workload. Resolve complaints and grievances and develop work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary. Effect disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area.
- Provide leadership to ensure support for equal employment opportunity (EEO) goals and requirements. Practice non-discriminatory and non-retaliatory employment actions and foster a culture of learning, sharing, cooperation and teamwork that improves efficiency and effectiveness throughout the organization.
- Serve as a liaison, advisor and representative on complex issues related to marketing for the CVC. Lead strategy for all marketing efforts for the CVC, including internal consultation with staff, liaison communication with Congressional offices, the tourism industry, other professional organizations and the media on promoting CVC special events. Develop a Five-Year Strategic Plan and oversee development of annual updates covering each of the general goals for the strategic plan.

To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.- Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Working with Members of Congress and staff to provide information about or advance an organization's interests;
- Conveying information to the general public, local, state, federal government officials, and segments of industry;
- Managing and overseeing the production of digital and written communications;
- Developing effective and measurable communication strategies;
- Planning, organizing and developing programs of a significant scope;
- Preparing and tailoring materials for all forms of mass communications and briefings and outreach message to influence and inform stakeholders;
- Experience involving leading and supervising or managing a staff is required.
