**About the Position**:
As a member of the executive team, the Assistant Director of Recidivism Management and Special Projects (RMSP) is responsible for researching, coordinating, and developing strategies aimed at reducing recidivism for youth involved in the juvenile justice system. The RSMP will work cross-departmentally in the development and implementation of new initiatives, building relationships with targeted community stakeholders to determine the best practices for achieving highest impact results identify effective program investments and analyze results of programming.
This position will also liaise with experts from across the country and use evidence and research to inform the direction of the department in regards to recidivism initiatives, including approaches and strategies to address high-risk behaviors such as aggravated offenses and gun violence. The interventions should range from prevention for youth who are at risk of becoming involved in the juvenile justice system to youth who are transitioning back to the community from placement and all points between.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Develops a strategic plan(s) that aims to reduce violence, gun violence, and recidivism for youth involved in the juvenile justice system and achieves innovative and actionable outcomes while individually fostering relationships among both internal and external stakeholders.
- Produces policy memos and briefs for the executive team, including applicable trends and frameworks to ensure that advice, policy development, service delivery reforms, and major initiatives are reflective of current best practices.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with County and community partners, department staff, and other stakeholders on key department initiatives and programs.
- Implements collaboration and best practices to improve the functioning and impact of initiative/partnership work.
- Makes recommendations for new community partnerships and initiatives.
- Identifies and carries out opportunities to promote enhanced collaboration among initiative partners in key impact areas.
- Delivers clear, effective, and strategic communication, including briefing materials and presentations, to a wide range of audiences and stakeholders.

**Required Education and Experience**:

- BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in Criminology, Corrections, Social Sciences, Education, or related field **plus**:

- Ten (10) years of work experience in juvenile justice or related field.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Basic knowledge of child and adolescent risk factors and community resources.
- Strong sense of urgency and engagement in reforming systems and designing innovative policies for juvenile justice.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, particularly in briefing and conveying complex information in a succinct and clear manner.
- Effective time management and prioritization with experience meeting multiple tight deadlines and balancing numerous projects in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Ability to develop and drive new initiatives, work cross-departmentally, work within multidisciplinary teams, oversee projects to completion, and track results.
- Strong collaborative skills and ability to work autonomously with accountability.
- Represent HCJPD in national policy, research, and innovation conversations.
