**Job Overview**
Perform semi-skilled routine mechanical work in the maintenance and servicing of school buses and white fleet vehicles in accordance with prescribed preventive maintenance schedules with emphasis on safety, cost control, and responsiveness to operational needs in order to provide safe, efficient, and reliable transportation with well maintained vehicles.
** Position Description**

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**

**Operation**
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections of fleet in accordance with the preventive maintenance schedules
- Perform oil & filter changes
- Inspect and replace belts & hoses
- Remove, replace wiper blades & light bulbs
- Grease & lubricate vehicle parts in accordance with the Preventive Maintenance Schedule
- Perform fluid levels inspections on fleet vehicles and fill as necessary
- Check, remove and install service batteries
- Check, remove, repair and install tires on fleet vehicles
- Install and/or remove bus seats or other equipment such as ratchets; shoulder belts; safety hardness; and make minor repairs as needed
- Conduct vehicle inspections as required by the state and issue certified vehicle safe inspector decals
- Wash and clean buses
- Perform/respond to road service calls as needed
- Act as a substitute bus driver as needed

**Administrative**
- Maintain a safe, clean, productive and efficient work area
- Record time spent, materials used and activities on computer system (RTA) as each task is completed
- Keep accurate written and computer records and maintain files, prepare routine reports
- Comply with all shop rules; F.B.I.S.D. Policies & Procedures and motor vehicle laws
- Take all necessary steps and opportunities to improve skills, knowledge and abilities as a mechanic

- High School diploma or GED
- Texas CDL Driver's License, Class A or B, with P and S endorsements or must be obtained within 120 days of hire date
- Pass an Annual Physical (DOT) Department of Transportation
- Texas School Bus Driver Certification or obtain within 120 days
- Possession of a valid Texas Vehicle Inspector's Certificate required or must be obtained within one year of hire date
- Minimum of 1 year of previous experience in a vehicle maintenance field
- Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle maintenance and servicing methods, techniques, practices and equipment; Demonstrated knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the work is required
- Ability to perform all essential functions of the job and to operate required tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner required
- Ability to keep routine records and files, and to prepare routine reports utilizing fleet vehicle maintenance software, required
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, and to communicate clearly and concisely and maintain good interpersonal relationships required

The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

**Additional Information**
- Work inside/outside in temperature extremes, slippery surfaces ,noise, chemical exposure (fumes, vapor, gases, dust, smoke, etc.)
- Work around moving machinery with moving parts, moving objects, or moving vehicles
- Due to the nature of the position, being available after hours, weekends, and holidays is required. "On Call" situations to be expected
