**The Job: Outreach and Engagement Coordinator**

Chesapeake Legal Alliance is a team of environmental lawyers -- both staff and volunteers -- who stand ready to help all types of Bay advocates protect their communities and waterways for FREE We think this is a pretty great deal. We are seeking a talented and professional Outreach and Engagement Coordinator to join our team.

As the Outreach and Engagement Coordinator, your goal will be to:

- manage CLA’s Pro Bono Center, which involves conducting all intakes for the organization and assisting clients in pinpointing their legal needs,
- raise awareness about the variety of services offered by CLA lawyers,
- ensure the communities in need of our services know that we are here to help,
- welcome people into the (often intimidating) legal world and pair them with a wonderful volunteer lawyer to help,
- provide litigation support to our volunteer lawyers and staff,
- recruit new volunteer lawyers to join our team so that we can serve more people,
- remind our active volunteers how much we value them,
- continuously spread the word about CLA’s successes, and
- inspire more people to support our efforts to protect and restore the environmental and public health of the Chesapeake watershed.

We are seeking a self-motivated, enthusiastic, and community-driven person to take on this exciting new role. This position requires a positive attitude, creativity, and readiness to be a team player with a group of talented (and likely type-A) lawyers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with diverse audiences via social media, are required. Must be detail-oriented and able to work with highly confidential information. Occasional travel within the Bay watershed will be required.

This is a two-year fellowship serving as a key member of our team, and reporting to our Executive Director, David Reed. The fellow will have the opportunity to flex legal skills while performing client intakes, and spot issues that cover a diverse range of legal topics to pinpoint the help our clients need. The fellow will also have the opportunity to gain litigation and policy experience, spending approximately 20% of his or her time working with CLA staff on litigation and policy initiatives.

**Your Responsibilities**
- **Conduct Constituent Outreach**:_Work with CLA leadership, staff, and volunteer attorneys to implement outreach initiatives that increase CLA’s visibility to constituent groups; expand awareness of the free legal services provided by CLA staff and volunteer attorneys; and expand the reach of CLA programs to underserved communities. Specific activities include:

- Plan, coordinate, and attend outreach events with a focus on targeting those who are unfamiliar with CLA’s services and/or CLA’s volunteer opportunities.
- Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other partnership and/or communication opportunities.
- Build new partnerships with watershed, legal, and corporate organizations.
- Nurture new and old relationships with collaborative partners, including clients, volunteer attorneys/law firms, and other corporate partners.
- Develop/maintain consistent outreach materials.
- [Note: CLA’s constituent groups include: (1) CLA clients/partners, including individuals, NGOs, and community groups working to protect the environmental and public health of the Chesapeake Bay, and (2) CLA’s Volunteer Attorney Network of over 300 volunteer attorneys who provide pro bono legal services to CLA clients and partners.]_
- **Manage the Volunteer Attorney Network**_: Recruit, retain, and (re)engage volunteer attorneys within the legal community to serve CLA clients/partners. Specific activities include:

- Proactively recruit new volunteer attorneys, with a focus on Pennsylvania and Virginia licensed practitioners.
- Orient new members of the Volunteer Attorney Network to the CLA volunteer process.
- Maintain database and mailing lists for the Volunteer Attorney Network.
- Implement volunteer appreciation activities/events.
- **Coordinate Case Intake and Placement**:_Conduct preliminary case intake; communicate all volunteer opportunities to the Volunteer Attorney Network; coordinate case placement; solicit regular updates on case status. Specific activities include:

- Act as initial point of contact for requests for legal assistance.
- Draft & communicate volunteer opportunities to the Volunteer Attorney Network.
- Coordinate case placement with volunteer attorneys.
- Collect case updates and hours from active volunteers.
