Instructor of Cabinetmaking

Westfield Public Schools seeks qualified applicants for the Instructor of Cabinetmaking at **Westfield Technical Academy** for the 2024-2025 school year.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Teaches cabinetmaking skills and knowledge full-time to students in grades 9-12.
- Teach students utilizing a course of study adopted by the Westfield Public Schools and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching course content.
- Instructs students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the competency based course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law, administrative regulations, and procedures of the school district.
- Develop lesson plans, maintain plan books and organize class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Maintain a clean and safe job site and environment that utilized NIOSH and OSHA safety standards.
- Demonstrates occupational materials, equipment, tools, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids in accordance with the cabinetmaking competency based task listing.
- Instructs students in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Grades and monitors student progress through the use of progress reports, report cards, and student competency lists.
- Communicates with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual student progress.
- Attends special education individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, where the teachers presence is required.
- Provides supervision and extra help to students where needed.
- Attends meetings as required by the teacher contract.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, school policy and administrative regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

Building Principal and the Director of Career Vocational Technical Education

**Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.
