**GENERAL DEFINITION**:
This is a supervisory investigative position for the County's District Attorney's Office. Work includes supervising and training investigators throughout the District Attorney's Office including the Homicide Task Force, Drug Task Force, Special Victims Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, and other specifically assigned investigative units. This positions in this class include the chief criminal investigator for the office and may include the next subordinate level criminal investigator in the chain of command. The positions in this class are differentiated from those in closely related ones by the assigned supervisory responsibility, the management and administration of the County's prosecution investigation function and maintaining liaison with law-enforcement agencies. A position in this class reports directly to The District Attorney.

**TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK**:(Illustrative Only)

Establishes and maintains liaison with all law-enforcement agencies operating within the County; coordinates investigations with other agencies, both within and outside of the County; participates as a member, representative of the office or on other basis, of law-enforcement criminal justice, public interest group and other associations and meetings.

Answers directly to The District Attorney in all matters relevant to the supervision of all Lehigh County Detectives and Special Detectives. Recommends the appointment of Lehigh County Special Detectives on an as-needed basis. Oversees and ensures the training and education of all detectives and personnel under their supervision and the documentation of same.

Liaise with local, State and Federal law-enforcement agencies within the County to promote the availability and appropriate use of technology and services to law enforcement; perform outreach to law-enforcement agencies outside of the County to promote regionalization efforts of investigative case support. Coordinate and oversee law enforcement related community outreach events within the County to promote community-based awareness, drug prevention education, and crime abatement programs.

Performs all other duties and task as assigned.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:
Comprehensive knowledge of criminal investigation goals and objectives, principles and practices.

Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of judicial proceedings, including rules of procedure and evidence, as they affect investigatory activities.

Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, precedents and regulations.

Thorough knowledge of law-enforcement and criminal justice system organization, principles and practices.

Skill in the use and maintenance of handguns when required by work assignment.

Ability to instruct and oversee lower-level investigations personnel in the investigation and documentation of criminal case for prosecution.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with law-enforcement officials and representatives of the criminal justice system.

Ability to establish and maintain records of activities and to prepare reports from the same.

Ability to testify in judicial proceedings to activities and findings.

**ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE**:
A Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or a closely related field is preferred.

At least fifteen years of investigative experience in a law-enforcement, criminal justice or related organization.

Or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities cited above.

**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**:
Possession of certificate issued by the Municipal Police Officer Training Commission.
