The Analyzer Specialist acts as a leader and advocate for best practices in the selection, implementation, and maintenance of the analyzer asset base to ensure that regulatory, production, and optimization objectives are met at the refinery, under the general direction of the Instrumentation & Controls Superintendent. The analyzer asset base includes all process measurement, safeguards and regulatory analyzers. Provides technical support to maintenance mechanics, projects and maintains the effectiveness of the analyzer asset base at the Los Angeles Refinery. Ensures adherence to established Company guidelines, policies, procedures, and applicable governmental regulations.

**Responsibilities May Include**:
Maintains and monitors predictive and preventative maintenance programs for the analyzer asset base.

Provides technical direction for field repairs, prepares for environmental regulatory, critical PM, and project site acceptance testing.

Works with instrument area supervisors to ensure PM repairs are scheduled and completed, which includes field verification and documentation per scheduled PM intervals.

Leads analyzer troubleshooting and serves as technical support to the Maintenance, Operations and Technical Services departments in order to improve the quality of maintenance repairs, daily equipment operation, engineered modifications, and new equipment installations, including quality control assurance.

Creates strategy for development of instrument reliability improvement efforts to address bad actors and obsolescence.

Leads the site Analyzer Obsolescence Program and maintains analyzer criticality database.

Working with instrument engineers, ensures analyzer selection, purchase and field installation follows site AML, Required Standard and Analyzer Network requirements for maintenance and capital projects.

Identifies opportunities and leads pilot programs for new technology to improve reliability and reduce bad actors, including beta testing and documentation for addition to the site AML.

Develops and provides analyzer training for LAR maintenance mechanics in conjunction with Analyzer Network resources and the Superintendent for integration into Journeyman and Non-Journeyman training plans.

Identifies analyzer work scope for all maintenance turnarounds.

Works with area supervisor and leads in execution to ensure that all required work scope is completed and accurately documented.

Participates in meetings with corporate network teams, including the Field Instrument Network (FIN) and is the site lead representative for the Analyzer Network.

Works with the instrument engineer to review capital/expense projects as it pertains to the analyzer asset base in accordance with industry best practice, regulatory and corporate standards.

Initiator, reviewer, and approver of MOC’s and PSSR’s as it pertains to the analyzer asset base in coordination with the instrument engineer, area supervisors and process controls specialists.

Performs periodic audits and inspections of CEMS equipment to identify gaps in work processes and improvement plans.

Must be able to respond to off-hours support requests, including weekends and/or holidays for turnarounds and/or operational upsets.

**Required Qualifications**:
Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular, full-time basis without restrictions.

High School Diploma or GED.

3 or more years of analyzer work experience

Experience with CEMS and SCAQMD / EPA Regulations and Requirements

Intermediate proficiency or greater in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Excel and Word

Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following:
Travel up to 1% of the time.

Support rotational on-call duties.

Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work safely near large, hot equipment, and / or high-speed machines.

Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height.

Work around chemicals, including acids and bases.

Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat

Work outside in harsh weather conditions.

Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel toe shoes, ear, and eye protection).

Maintain face daily so that a respirator / face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven).

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

15 or more years experience in refining or chemicals industry, with emphasis on analyzers

Strong written and verbal communication skills

The Los Angeles Refinery consists of two linked facilities located five miles apart in Carson and Wilmington, California.
