SUMMARY:
The Grundy County Health Department works to preserve, protect and promote the health and well-being of Grundy County. Services are offered in response to community need and in accordance with oversight agencies to clients of the lifespan - infant to older adults.

The Behavioral Health Clinical Associate (BHCA) serves an important dual-purpose role in the operations of the Division and the entire Health Department. This includes both case management and secretarial duties. The BHCA helps Grundy residents take responsibility for their mental health journeys by promoting action through goal setting and achievement. The BHCA also performs general reception services and clerical duties, and coordinates contacts between clinical staff, clients and outside agencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides quality customer service to all clients of the Health Department with clarity, respect and dignity.

2. Provides administrative assistance to the Health Department including, but not limited to:
a. Acts as the first point of contact for Health Department clients via phone or in person.

b. Receives and receipt payments for services and activities.

c. Maintains and updates records in electronic record systems.

d. Serves as support to direct service staff and leadership, extending oneself to maximize the client experience and to create efficient work processes for the Division and the entire Health Department.

e. Assists in creating and distributing educational and health promotion materials.

3. Completes initial registration for clients along with obtaining necessary demographic information, insurance, releases, and other paperwork as deemed necessary for the registration process.

a. Maintains electronic charts in a manner that is organized and, at a minimum, has an 80% compliance rate based on standard chart audits.

4. Screens incoming behavioral health calls and walk-ins to determine urgency using Request for Service process. Creates charts and schedules assessment appointments for all ages. May begin providing case management services upon request and/or referring clients needing immediate attention to the appropriate personnel.

a. Provides recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey, from pre-recovery engagement to recovery initiation, to recovery stabilization, to sustained recovery maintenance.

b. Assists and coaches recovering persons in the development of their own recovery plans with the common goal of achieving and maintaining the lives they want.

5. Acts when receiving a crisis call. Informs appropriate personnel of situation at hand and makes required immediate calls to i.e. police, ambulance, and hospital.

6. Serves as the gatekeeper of client/patient files, in both hard copy and the Electronic Health Records system. Performs data entry pertinent to the client files. Processes and completes requests for information from federal and state entities.

7. Participates in activities that lead to cooperation with other county departments, which may include preparing workspaces for closure at the end of the night.

8. Participates in activities that lead to compliance with accrediting bodies, granting agencies and oversight entities, which may include distribution and collection of surveys.

9. Provides a model for persons with mental health and substance use issues, GCHD staff, and the community by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
