Assistant Director of Accessibility Services

**Broad Function**:
Responsible for coordinating mandated accommodations/academic adjustments for students with disabilities pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, the ADA Amendment Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and any other federal or state law that may apply. The position performs these functions in collaboration with Accessibility Services and reports to the Director of Accessibility Services.
**Major Responsibilities**:
Coordinate mandated accommodations/academic adjustments for students with disabilities as per ADA, Section 504, 508, and other regulatory requirements.
- Interview students and, under supervision of the Director, determine when students are eligible to receive services and certify documentation is appropriate. Conduct initial meetings with incoming students to review documentation and provide accommodations
- Manage, implement, and coordinate the accessibility services tutoring program; supervise student workers/tutors and manage budget allocation
- In accordance with the Adirondack Agenda, lead the office in retention and student success efforts by establishing programming for students with disabilities
- Participate in professional development activities, program development, and serve on committees that impact services for students with disabilities, as assigned by the Director.
- Advocate for students and act as a resource with faculty/staff to provide students with mandated accommodations/academic adjustments.
- Assist students with specific study skills such as study habits, memory training, test-taking strategies, time management skills, organizational skills, and provide associated training etc.
- Provide referrals to appropriate on-campus and off-campus services and resources as needed.
- Participate in transitional programs/workshops for area high school and college professionals and service agency personnel, as assigned by the Director.
- Maintain professional customer service to all persons contacted during job performance.
- Willingness and flexibility to work evening and weekend hours, as assigned by the Director.
- Provide leadership in the absence of the Director
- Other duties as assigned by the President.
**Required Skills**:
Must have working knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to serving people with disabilities in a postsecondary education setting, including Section 504/ADA. Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Strong computer skills for using Microsoft Word, Excel and ability to learn new software. Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc. Ability to work comfortably with individuals with apparent and non-apparent disabilities.
**Educational Requirements**:
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Social Work, or related field required. (Masters preferred)
**Years of Experience**
3-5 years of experience working in a capacity in disability services, with prior supervisory experience. Must have interest in and working knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to serving people with disabilities in a postsecondary education setting, including Section 504/ADA.
**Salary**
A salary determination will be made at the time of the offer based on actual demonstrated years of experience in the exact position.
