The Department of Public Safety, Maine State Police, Commercial Vehicle Unit is looking for a Motor Carrier Supervisor based in Augusta. Fixed duty position supervising Motor Carrier Inspectors and Contract Workers. This position is Commercial vehicle data driven, to ensure that Commercial vehicles operating on Maine’s highway comply with state size, weight laws and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

**_ Primary responsibilities include:_**

This is investigative and protective service work of a supervisory nature involving enforcement of laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to intra-state and inter-state commercial motor carriers of property and passengers for hire. Responsibilities include acting as liaison between the director and internal/external entities, providing guidance and assistance in the conduct of and/or conducting inspections, comprehensive audits, compliance reviews, and investigations, ensuring uniformity of inspection and audit activities statewide, initiating enforcement actions, preparing administrative reports, and supervising assigned staff. Work is performed under limited supervision

**_ Skills or knowledge required:_**- Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing motor carriers and terminal operations.- Knowledge of modern principles, practices, methodologies, and techniques of conducting compliance audits, investigations, and inspections.- Knowledge of State Police policies, practices, and procedures applicable to commercial vehicle enforcement operations.- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, human resources, and coordination of people and resources.- Knowledge of applicable industry computer software, database user interface, and query software and techniques to perform computer updates, train users, and troubleshoot abnormalities.- Ability to read, understand, and interpret laws, rules, regulations, permits, driver logs, and related forms and reports.- Ability to implement organizational process or policy changes.-
- Ability to communicate effectively.- Ability to write clearly and effectively.- Ability to direct, supervise, train, and evaluate work performance of inspection staff.- Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills to elicit information from people and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.- Ability to obtain and safeguard evidence.- Ability to use applicable computer programs.

**_Minimum qualifications:_**

A six (6) year combination of education, training, and experience providing an in-depth knowledge of for-hire motor carrier laws, rules, regulations, equipment, and operations.
