Provides residents with assistance with ADL’s, housekeeping, dining, activities and any other area that they made need assistance. Assist residents to take medications as per physician orders under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Arriving to and punching in for work, on-time, for the scheduled shift.
- Having the provided supplies, keys, uniform, etc. as needed for your position.
- Not having any type of cell phone, palm pilot, blackberry or other messaging devices other than assigned by (ASSISTED LIVING) on your person.
- Reading the Communication/24 Hour Shift Book at the beginning of your shift.
- Observing all Universal Precautions and Infection Control Standards.
- Must possess a valid certification of a Personal Care Assistant, Home Health Aide or Certified Nurses Aide and have been certified by the State as a Certified Medication Aide.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, families and the general public.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
- Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing facility practices.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
- Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must be in general good health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people within the facility.
- Responsible for the bathing/showering and/or shaving as assigned or needed for residents as well as all necessary documentation of shower given. If shower not given, the Resident Service Associate must notify the LPN Supervisor or DON.
- Responsible for dressing and assisting residents with necessary Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
- Responsible for reporting to either the Registered Nurse, Director of Nursing and/or LPN Supervisor as well as logging in the Communication/24 Shift Report Book when there is a change in a resident’s condition, incident, fall, etc. If a resident is feeling ill, the RSA will question the resident about their symptoms and if necessary, follow up with emergency procedures.
- Responsible for communicating to the incoming shift any important and necessary information - both verbally and in writing in the Communication /24 Hour Shift report.
- Responsible for assisting residents will all necessary care, including dressing and undressing for the day.
- Responsible for being present in the dining rooms at all meal times to assist residents as needed.
- May not punch out and leave residents unattended until their shift replacement has arrived and any pertinent information communicated to the incoming RSA.
- Required to follow all Company Policies and Procedures, as stated in the Employee Handbook as well as the training guidelines provided in the facilities on-going in-service programs.
- Responsible for performing all other reasonable duties as required and/or assigned.
- Reports to the Director of Nursing or Designee and/or Executive Director
**Job Skills**:
- Must be in good physical and mental health
- Must be able to withstand strenuous physical activity.
- Must have visual and aural acuity to detect changes in residents’ conditions.
- Must have manual dexterity to handle instruments and equipment.
- Must possess understanding, patience and tact in dealing with infirm, chronic or acutely ill residents.
- Musts possess tact and courtesy in dealing with Residents, families and visitors.
- Must possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
- Must have a general knowledge of the Senior Management Personnel and Procedures, along with an understanding of the Chain of Command.
- Must possess the ability to work independently, problem solve, and make decisions as necessary.
- Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language, which may be technical in nature.
- Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
