**Job description**
- OrthoAlabama is seeking a Surgery Scheduler/Medical Assistant for our Office primarily in Trussville, AL with occasional shifts in Hoover, AL. _
- ***:_
- The _**Surgery Scheduler/Medical Assistant**_ _is responsible for a wide range of clinic and surgery scheduling tasks for assigned physician(s). Responsibilities include coordinating surgical procedures with multiple hospitals and surgery centers; scheduling and obtaining pre-operative testing; writing and communicating surgery orders; and collecting necessary documentation for surgeries. This individual works closely with patients, physicians, and surgery centers to provide accurate, timely, and responsive documentation. This person is also responsible for performing a wide range of administrative and clinical tasks as directed by the physician. MA's may assist with the examination and treatment of patients (including staples, stitches, wound care, casting, etc.), interview patients, measure vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height) and record information in patients' charts. Additional responsibilities may include preparing treatment rooms for patient examinations and assisting with the completion of X-Rays. _**CLINICAL EXPERIENCE & SURGERY SCHEDULING in an ORTHOPEDIC PRACTICE are REQUIRED.**_
- **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**_
- _Managing incoming calls and returning messages_
- _Scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments_
- _Documenting patients' medical information, including medical history and health insurance information_
- _Obtaining prior authorizations for surgeries, medications & advanced imaging_
- _Performing data entry tasks to document patient records within facility databases and maintaining patient files_
- _Coordinating daily office activities, greeting patients and checking patients in and out for their appointments_
- _Coordinates and schedules surgeries, follow-up appointments as designated by the physician_
- _Effectively communicates with patients’, physicians and other staff both within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information._
- _Coordinates processes and routes all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements._
- _Ensures efficient telephone communication._
- _Documents work processes as required._
- _Follows all written protocols and procedures of the clinic._
- _Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families._
- _Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols._
- _Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and management._
- _Schedule surgeries based on physician volume maintaining appropriate standard turn-around times._
- _Identifies scheduling barriers and implements solutions to improve scheduling results based on predetermined goals._
- _Follow established REI and surgery center/hospital precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment. Adhere to policies regarding safety, confidentiality and HIPPA guidelines._
- **QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS**:_
- _High school diploma or GED required._
- _CCMA preferred_
- _1 year scheduling procedures is _**required**_. Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, patients and the public and be capable of establishing good working relationships with both internal and external customers._
- _Strong knowledge of clinical / medical practice operations, procedures, terminology, and administrative procedures._
- _Must be flexible and have the ability to multitask._
- _Ability to collaborate across departments and build effective relationships with internal and external customers to achieve goals._
- _Possession of strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment._
- _Ability to achieve team goals while demonstrating organizational values and utilizing resources responsibly._
- _Ability to be proactive and take initiative._
- _Exhibit high level of quality through attention to detail and monitoring of work._
- _Possession of strong organizational skills._
- _Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as, exceptional interpersonal communication skills._
- _Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments._
- _Processes confidential information and/or issues using discretion and sound judgment._
- **WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS**:_
- Work is performed in a clinic setting. Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. Ability to accurately type, write, and use general office equipment is necessary. Extensive telephone communication is required._
