Back Desk Lumber and Hardware Sales

**_BASIC FUNCTION:_**_ _Responsible for greeting and assisting customers, making them feel comfortable and ensuring that the experience they receive makes them want to return to Koopman Lumber and tell their friends about their experience. Tasks include receiving payment from customers for merchandise or service; waiting on customers, answering telephone inquiries, keeping displays and store well maintained, clean, organized and safe, placing orders and maintaining professional appearance at all times._
**_RESPONSIBILITIES:_**_ _
- _Interacts in a positive, pleasant and prompt manner with customers in person and on the telephone_
- _Accurately inputs customer transactions including quotes, purchase orders, special orders, and returns into POS_
- _Assists with questions regarding merchandise, location of merchandise in store, pricing and promotions_
- _Provides the highest level possible of service to all customers with the main objective of serving our retail customers_
- _Determines customer requirements and expectations in order to recommend specific products and solutions_
- _Generates new and repeat sales by providing product and technical information in a timely manner_
- _Recommends items related to purchases made and/or alternate products based on cost, availability or specifications to increase customer satisfy action and improve transaction profitability_
- _Increases sales and average order size by cross-selling, up-selling, add-on sales and offering promotional sale items_
- _Educates customers about terminology, features and benefits of products in order to improve product-related sales and customer satisfaction_
- _Remains current on consumer preferences, changes in local codes and product developments by attending sales meetings, vendor training and trade shows or reading trade journals_
- _Maintains proficiency in technology as the Company brings in the necessary tools to increase job efficiency and productivity_
- _Follows company policies and procedures_
- _Presents a professional image at all times to customers and vendors_
- _Attends and participates in all company-sponsored training programs as required, and seeks to learn about products and services available._
- _Promotes team concept_
- _Proper use and completion of purchase order tracking procedures and open order report_
- _Tracks deliveries in DDS for customers_
- _Verifies confirmations and acknowledgements from vendors for accuracy and pricing_
**_SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:_**
- _Special focus on building materials knowledge and familiarity preferred_
- _Ability to operate computer equipment, do math, read orders, follow instructions_
- _Ability to communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills_
- _Good interpersonal, communication, customer service skills and telephone etiquette_
- _Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques_
- _Be aware of and follow the We Believe statements and MSDT ECET objectives_
