Director of Student ServicesPentucket Regional School DistrictJob Description_________________________________Director of Student ServicesJob Goal: The Director of Student Services designs, develops, implements, and evaluates special education and related services, health services, psychological services, enrichment services, compensatory services and guidance and counseling services; directs services related to student placement, census, attendance, student records, suspension and expulsion, and at-risk and alternative programming.QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in administration, educational leadership, or related field; doctorate preferred.Previous experience in student services, preferably in a leadership role.Licensure as a Special Education Administrator required.Strong understanding of evidence-based instruction, intervention, and practices for students with a wide range of learning needs and profiles.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and foster a supportive campus community.Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to student affairs and education.Experience with budget management and resource allocation.Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of student services.Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check.Reports to: Superintendent of SchoolsWork Year: Calendar yearSalary/Benefits: Individual contract, benefits consistent with those offered to all full time professional employees.Performance Responsibilities: Coordinates all special education programs (pre K-12) in the Pentucket Regional School District to ensure provision of services that meet the needs of the current population; ensure compliance with Chapter 766 State and Federal regulations; and maintain continuity of services.Provides technical assistance to both regular and special educators in the implementation of successful teaching and assessment strategies for at-risk learners.Provides guidance to the administrative assistant to help determine necessary transportation services as related to student IEPs.Assumes leadership role in developing procedures to effectively implement Chapter 766 policies.Collaborates with principals in supervision and evaluation of special education staff and programs.Assumes responsibility for procurement of all federal and state special education grants and, with the Assistant Superintendent, searches out grant opportunities for development of special education programs and training.Supervises screening process for kindergarten and preschool to fulfill child find requirements of Chapter 766.Leads the collaboration with the District SEPAC. Collaborates with principals in establishing and/or maintaining a pre-referral process for regular education ownership in each school.Maintains a close and supportive relationship with administrators and department heads and interfaces in a positive, professional manner with parents, students, staff and outside agency representatives.Oversees and chairs the process of placement or removal of students in out-of-district placements and ensures proper monitoring of progress of children placed outside the district making sure that such placements are appropriate.Coordinates Districts use of third party payment system and participation in state Medicare reimbursement program.Establishes and maintains regional special education record keeping system, files, and coordinates completion of districtwide October 1, December 1 and June reports and ensures that other required special education reports (i.e., 3 year report) are completed.Assumes responsibility for overseeing the Districts extended year program, including hiring of staff and developing the budget.Works closely with the Superintendent of Schools, Business Manager, and Principals to develop and monitor the special education pre K-12 budget.Informs the Superintendent of Schools on matters pertaining to problems or questions related to special education services.Directs health services of the District in accordance with established policy.Directs all related pupil services including psychological services, mental health programs, speech services, occupational and physical therapy services, and adaptive physical education services.Directs preK-12 guidance services.Develops and maintains student record keeping processes.Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.Essential Functions of the Job: Must possess the ability to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel and students.Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.Contribute to an overall school culture where ongoing personal and professional development is valued.Stay current in the areas of special education and special education law.Provide instructional leadership to school personnel in effective uses of best practices and reso
