Direct Support Associate

**General Description**
Assist people supported with developmental and intellectual disabilities with leisure and recreational activities while supporting their independence and personal preferences and interests.
**Essential Functions** _The following are minimum requirements of the position:_
- Provide assistance and decision making opportunities that enable individuals to accomplish activities of daily living including: dietary and mealtime preparation, household tasks, errands and community based activities.
- Promote appropriate communication and interactions in the home and community consistent with agencies Core Values and Mission, with the supported resident.
- Report any concerns to management team.
- Maintain a positive, productive team environment including relationships with individuals, families, community associations, management, and co-workers.
- Ability to confidentially review house records to keep informed about the individuals and agency, including the house log.
- Attend and successfully complete required training including but not limited to_: Orientation, Human Rights, HIPAA, CPR & First Aid, Fire Life Safety, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communications _and other assigned agency in-services.
- Attend staff meetings, as topic appropriate throughout the year, along with those in-services deemed necessary by management.
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
**Additional Functions of the Job** _The physical demands are essential functions to effectively perform job duties_.
- Regularly required to reach with hands/arms, push/pull, stoop, kneel and bend/twist.
- Regularly required to stand, walk and sit.
- Regularly required to lift objects 5-15 lbs.
**General Requirements**:
- Minimum 16 years old
- Enrolled in High School
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Effective organizational skills
- Proven ability to maintain good working relationships with a variety of people
**Pre and Post Employment Conditions**:
- Current CPR and First Aid certification cards.
- Maintain a working knowledge of and adherence to all agency policies and procedures.
- PPD (Tuberculosis) testing required initially upon hire and then annually.
- Maintain required trainings as outlined by the agency including: HIPAA, BBP, Human Rights, etc.
