**Childcare Director Job Description**

St. John’s Childcare exists to teach, care, and share God’s love. We do this by providing excellent care and developmentally appropriate learning opportunities to all children in our childcare center. All teachers and staff at St. John’s work together to create safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environments to help facilitate children’s growth in all areas: physical, social, emotional, and spiritual.

**Job Requirements**:
At least 21 years old

Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, or education field (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)

Experience in childcare or teaching settings, at least 2 years (Administrative Experience preferred)

Up to date on required trainings: CPR, AHT, Child Abuse & Neglect

Knowledge and understanding of Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Early Childhood

Knowledge and understanding of Childcare Licensing ratios and regulations

Proficiency in computer and technology skills

Ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff, and students

Model of Christian lifestyle and values (LCMS church member preferred)

**Responsibilities**:
The childcare director is responsible for the operational order of the childcare center and K3-8th grade extended care program, including and not limited to staffing, enrollment, facilities, and parent communication. The lists below indicate many of the responsibilities of a director in 3 categories: Classroom Environment, Planning & Prep, and Professionalism. These are not exhaustive descriptions but give a near complete picture of the goals and expectations of the childcare director at St. John’s Childcare.

**Classroom Environment**
- Ensure that staff are following a curriculum that incorporates Jesus into the classroom daily through meal time prayer, Jesus Time, music, displays, and classroom conversations
- Hire staff that meet teacher requirements for each classroom
- Schedule staff to be within approved staff:child ratios
- Perform staff and classroom evaluations regularly
- Communicate in a friendly, effective, and age appropriate manner
- Implement positive guidance or redirection as needed for staff and students
- Maintain stock of classroom supplies and materials
- Assure that all materials and equipment are clean, well stocked, and in good repair
- Set schedules for Extended Care groups based on enrollment numbers

**Planning & Prep**
- Review staff lesson plans
- Manage time to complete necessary tasks efficiently
- Setup and communicate billing and payment information to families
- Create and share staff schedules
- Prepare and submit payroll
- Prepare and submit weekly deposits
- Communicate regularly with parents
- Attend Admin Team Meetings
- Prepare, process, and finalize student enrollment
- Develop and follow annual budget
- Plan and publicize childcare events
- Communicate with school staff to get Extended Care Enrollment Forms to parents in August
- Set staffing for Extended Care AM & PM based on enrollment numbers

**Professionalism**
- Abide by all policies and procedures in the St. John’s Employee Handbook
- Attend required meetings
- Possess a team mentality
- Demonstrate good values and decision making skills
- Collaborate with staff to create, and follow, a classroom schedule including time for daily: Jesus Time, gross motor/outdoor, art, literacy, music, and free play
- Maintain open and cooperative relationships and communication with parents, peers, and staff
- Communicate with parents in a timely manner during work hours
- Maintain student confidentiality
- Supervise and appropriately direct staff in the classroom routines and procedures
- Collaborate with staff in planning/preparing school events

**Physical Demands**:
Early Childhood staff must be prepared and able to routinely stand, walk, sit, twist, bend, lift & carry children, crouch, kneel, push, pull, and reach out and above themselves. Lifting or moving items or children 25 lbs or less occurs frequently, and lifting or moving items or children up to 50 lbs can often occur. Teachers & students will go outside in temperatures ranging from a feels like of 20F to 90F.

The job of an early childhood teacher is a very physical one and the ability to perform the tasks, and others similar, mentioned above is essential. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
