**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Manager, with direction form the Registered Nurse, this position is responsible for providing high quality, continuous observation and reporting a patient’s electrocardiographic presentation.
- Performing duties in a manner that provides for the physical, psycho-social and spiritual needs of the patient. Incorporates cultural and ethnic factors into patient care activities within the limitations of the job, correctly differentiating and reporting normal and abnormal findings with direction from the RN and incorporates the functional/developmental age into these activities for the adolescent through geriatric patient population.
- Using hospital and regulatory standards of care, the Monitor Technician demonstrates sound judgment in the observation, recording, documenting and prompt reporting of a patient’s cardiac rhythms and incorporates care with the trans-disciplinary care plan. Demonstrates an awareness of each patient’s diagnosis, history and medication that may affect patient’s rhythm.
- As a member of the healthcare team the Monitor Technician implements and incorporates patient care activities across the continuum by effectively communicating with physicians, staff and other disciplines.
- The Monitor Technician maintains appropriate documentation; may assist other units in documenting strips during Code Blue situations; assures that patient chart and monitor chart forms are readily accessible.
- Assisting the department with basic clerical duties such as answering phones, directing visitors, processing paperwork, responding to patient call lights.
- Responding appropriately to concerns regarding patient safety based on the physical environment, equipment and the patient’s behavior.
- Demonstrating the ability to provide assistance in emergency situations and follows established emergency procedures and practices, as appropriate.
- Communicating and following the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care / service issues, when appropriate.
- Maintaining knowledge of, and demonstrates the ability to identify patient care issues and assist with patient care activities.
- Assuring that the rights of all patients are respected and maintained by allowing for privacy and dignity in the provision of patient care.
- The Monitor Technician is aware of the reporting responsibilities and reports suspected cases of abuse or neglect.
- Reinforces patient/family educational needs as identified by the RN and helps provide individualized basic teaching during the care giving process with considers the functional / developmental age and the needs of the adolescent through geriatric patient population. The Monitor Tech observes and reports the effectiveness of the patient / family teaching through observation of patient responses.
- Demonstrating knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values / readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. **Minimum Education**:

- High School graduate or equivalent

**Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications**:

- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

**Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications**:

- Minimum six months recent experience in an acute care setting preferred
- Previous critical care/telemetry experience preferred

**Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation**:

- Completion of Basic EKG course
- BLS card
- Fire Card
