**BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB**:
This position performs planning, implementation, coordination, and supervision of recreation programs, events and activities, including preparing program budgets and monitoring expenditures; administering the scheduling/use of recreation facilities; and performs related work as required.

**ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS**:

- Reports to Parks and Recreation Superintendent.
- Works closely with Athletic Field Technicians, contractors, and volunteers, other City departments, public and private sector entities, and the public.

- Plan, supervise, implement and staff recreational programs/activities, including sport leagues and tournaments, enrichment classes, special events other activities as needed.
- Develop, prepare, and manage budget for recreation programs, including controls and accounts for the expenditure of funds in accordance with the approved budget.
- Assist in researching and evaluating community needs and developing plans, goals, objectives, policies and procedures to deliver parks and recreation programs.
- Works with regional community service organizations, City departments, schools and community groups to enhance City recreation programs and facilitate community participation.
- Utilize software programs, social media, website, traditional print media, and industry contacts to market programing opportunities using best practice marketing strategies.
- Attends various City administrative meetings, i.e. Boards & Commission meetings, and other meetings as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.

**KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES**:
Knowledge of:

- Federal, State and local laws, ordinances, policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct and safety of public recreational facilities and programs.
- Principles and practices of recreation program administration; knowledge of recreational, cultural and social needs of the community; knowledge of modern and complex principles and practices of recreation program development.
- Legal liabilities and responsibilities for the recreation field
- Local community resources and regional community services programs.

Ability to:

- Use good judgment in handling complaints, altercations and emergency situations.
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills with staff and public.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships; and maintain appropriate necessary certifications.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with City employees, officials, other community services agencies and the general public.
- Assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands.
- Operate a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.
- Effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing including preparation of written reports.

**ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING**:

- High school graduation or its equivalent
- Three years’ experience managing or coordinating parks and recreation programs and activities
- _Or_ any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

**CERTIFICATES/LICENSES REQUIRED**:

- Valid Texas driver’s license.
