**JOB SUMMARY**:

- Reporting directly to the Clinical Practices Division Commander, responsible for identifying education needs for Williamson County Emergency Medical Services (WCEMS). Develops, implements, and evaluates education materials.

**EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED**:

- Creates and oversees the education of EMS paramedics and new hires
- Supervises and evaluates the work of Clinical Lieutenants and Field Training Officers (FTOs)
- Mentors Clinical Lieutenants and FTOs in the performance of their tasks and personnel management
- Completes performance evaluations and documents performance improvement plans; implements disciplinary action as needed
- Oversees WCEMS hiring process
- Maintains accurate records of education provided and skills performed
- Oversees the paramedic, AEMT, and EMT credentialing process
- Assures that all WCEMS Paramedics are current on Scope of Care testing and skills verification
- Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of educational materials for WCEMS
- Supports and participates in system-wide scientific research projects
- Serves as a liaison to local hospitals
- Assists the Medical Director in the maintenance of the Scope of Care document
- Oversees literature review as assigned by the Clinical Practices Division Commander and Medical Director for scientific studies and equipment procurement
- Assists in the development of a training curriculum for WCEMS
- Assists in the coordination of the education schedule
- Assists in the development of budget for Clinical Practices
- Participates in quality assurance/improvement review and training related to clinical services
- Reviews and reconciles intubation and cardiac arrest reports
- Utilizes discipline as necessary including friendly reminder, documented discussion, written counsel, notice of unsatisfactory performance
- Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas
- Performs special duties as assigned

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
- Position involves safely operating a motor vehicle and emergency equipment
- Position involves prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, lifting, climbing, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities
- Position involves hearing audible sounds and speaking in a clear, understandable voice
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to:

- Sit; talk and hear; use fingers, hands and arms to handle, reach and/or operate basic office equipment, objects, tools or controls
- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and smell
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

**ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS**
- Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned office
- May be required to work in inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold and wet conditions

**IRREGULAR HOURS**
- Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required
- Essential personnel for emergency situations; discretion of department director**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Five (5) years of EMS experience
- Three (3) years of management experience

**LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS**

**Required**
- Certified or licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an EMT-Paramedic
- Texas EMS Instructor

**Required within thirty (30) days of employment**
- Valid driver’s license

**Required within one (1) year of employment**
- Certified EMS Instructor (BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, AMLS, EPC or equivalent)

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Three (3) years of experience performing quality assurance/improvement processes in a related field
