South Mountain Community College (SMCC) reflects the diversity of the surrounding community, a rich mix of rural, urban, and suburban neighborhoods. Many of our students arrive from Phoenix, Laveen, Tempe, Guadalupe, and the surrounding area to attend classes at the main campus or our offsite facility in Guadalupe; we also offer evening courses in Laveen at Betty Fairfax High School.

Of the approximately 5,000 students enrolled at SMCC nearly 70 percent were first-generation college students and 48 percent intended to transfer to a university to further their education. And, with more than 80 percent of these students identifying as a minority, SMCC has been federally designated as a Minority Serving and Hispanic Serving Institution.

**Job Summary**:
This position begins Fall 2024

South Mountain Community College is seeking dual-qualified English and English as a Second Language faculty to work within an award-winning college environment. In this role, you will provide exceptional instruction for students from diverse backgrounds and cultures in all levels of English, English Humanities, and English as a Second Language.

As an ENG/ENH/ESL faculty, you will create a caring and supportive learning environment, ensuring that students are successful and supported throughout their college experience. You’ll be responsible for advancing the academic life of the college through participation in co-curricular activities, committee assignments, and professional growth. Your work will foster both student and community engagement.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as proficiency in using a variety of instructional modalities and methods to engage, support, and assess student academic success and maintain accurate records. You’ll be expected to follow all applicable laws, policies, and scholarly best practices to achieve a high-level of excellence within and outside the college classroom.
