**Duties**:
This position is assigned to the Maintenance Division of Indiana Dunes National Park. The division is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all park facilities, and grounds. The Tractor Operator is assigned to the Roads and Trails operation and works under the supervision of the Roads and Trails Supervisor.

**MAJOR DUTIES**: This is a permanent full-time position. Incumbent will be responsible for having a valid state driver's license and capable of operating vehicles and equipment up to 26,000 GVW to include dump trucks, trailers, snow plows and spreaders on both two and four lane roadways. Operates small farm type tractors, and other equipment to include 5 ton forklift, skid steers, and excavator under close supervision.

Perform trash removal from roadsides, trails, and beaches using UTVs and ATVs. Mows grass using riding and walk behind mowers and trimmers. You will be responsible to rehabilitate, modify and assemble from blueprints, sketches and verbal instruction, structures such as trail bridges, bulletin boards, fences and boardwalks that meets accessible standards.

**Area Information**:Indiana Dunes National Park is a 15,000 acre park located within 1 hour of the major metropolitan area of Chicago, IL with a population of over 10 million. The park is among the top 10 most visited National Park units annually. Within the park boundaries there are numerous local, county, state, and federal agencies. The park has 60+ miles of horse, bike and hiking trails, a 2,000 acre State Park, a large residential environment education center, several historic districts, 15 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and four communities within the park boundary. The Park is the birthplace of the science of ecology and has one of the most diverse plant communities in the NPS system. The park further supports several geographically dispersed units within the park as well as neighboring Pullman National Monument 30 miles distant.

**Conditions of Employment**:

- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.
- If you are a new permanent employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- You may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

**Qualifications**:

**Education**:
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

**Physical Demands**: Incumbent operates tractors in all types of terrain (steep and level) and along roadways. Incumbent must be able to do heavy to strenuous lifting (50 pounds), stooping, bending, climbing and working in cramped positions.

**Working Conditions**:Work location is outside, potentially in extreme temperatures. Incumbent must be capable of sustained physical effort under these conditions. Dirt, dust and marginal ranges of air pollution are present.-
