**Duties**:

- Operates hydrographic survey vessel.
- Performs computer related tasks such as equipment setup, networking equipment, data collection, data analysis, and processing.
- Setups and maintains hydrographic and topographic equipment.
- Provides on the job training to lower graded personnel.
- Competes reports for vehicle/surveying equipment and prepares field notes for engineering analysis.

**Conditions of Employment**:

- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a First Aid and CPR certificate within 12 months of employment.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Boat License within 2 years of employment.
- The duties of this position require extensive travel up to approximately 75% of the time.
- This position requires successful completion of pre-employment and annual medical examinations.
- Incumbent must have the ability to transfer between shore point and vessels under potentially adverse conditions is required.
- A Personal Floatation Device (PFD) must be worn at all times while working on open floating plant decks.
- Environmental conditions at work locations may range from excessive heat and humidity to extreme cold and rain.
- Some locations require incumbent be able to maintain stable mobility in sandy, marshy and unstable terrain.
- Although some work is sedentary, work conditions such as ergonomic issues related to seating or video display terminals, repetitive motion injury from using computers, lifting and carrying more than 50 pounds may be expected.

- **Specialized Experience**: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Operating various types of land/surveying equipment such as levels, theodolites, single beam, multibeam, side scan sonar, and global positioning systems; 2) Performing surveying engineering computations, and coordinate calculations for use by the survey team; and 3) Processing, evaluating, and editing electronic field data for entry into a computer-aided mapping design and analysis system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

- Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology.
- OR
- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
