**Posting Summary**
- Rutgers School of Health Professions (SHP) is seeking a Per Diem Work Assistant (Medical Interpreter) to work in the HOPE Clinic on Mondays in Plainfield, NJ. The Health Outreach Practice Experience (HOPE) Clinic is a community service - learning program of the Rutgers School of Health Professions Physician Assistant (PA) Program. Through HOPE, faculty and students provide free health services to undeserved an uninsured populations. The Work Assistant (Medical Interpreter) will provide Spanish-English interpretation and translation for patient care. Individual will be expected to interpret/translate verbal and/or written communication in-person, by phone, and via other virtual devices. Individual will work with practitioners who are not able to speak Spanish and are providing services to patients who are not able to speak English. Interpretation and translation must comply with medical office policies and procedures including but not limited to professional behavior and patient confidentiality.
Essential duties and responsibilities are:

- Demonstrates verbal and written fluency in Spanish and English.
- Translates verbal and written medical information precisely and accurately from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.
- Answers the phone or screens messages and interprets content to appropriate team member.
- Interprets and translates for patient care including intake of demographics and medical/social information; gathering of patient history and physical exam; explanation of assessment and treatment plan.
- Interacts with other providers or staff, external to the office, over the phone or virtual device.
- Communicates with strong interpersonal skills and patient-centered orientation.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and abides by the ethical and behavioral standards of the medical team.
- Maintains confidentiality of records and information.
- Collaborates with faculty, students, and staff including others who interpreter/translate.
- Seeks and incorporate feedback to improve performance_._
